If we stick with a map that does not actually contain a city again we really ought to rename our gamemode

No apartments, no nice mainstreet shops, MTL has been replaced with old v2d mtl and DTM has been replaced with the trashy office blocks from v2d.
As for true north, it looks very much like Rockford and has the same glaring problems. No space to build, many of the buildings seem very linear and uninviting to builders and of course, fake buildings.
There seems to be a tonne of filler content like Rockford ie; long empty and unnecessary roads & fake buildings.
I'm not even going to give any input on v2d because I don't even know why it's an option in 2018, almost 2019.
It's probably going to be v5p for me though my only concern would be the map is too large for our community, I don't doubt that it is a large map though I think the main city is extremely functional for passive roleplayers, there really is alot of areas for all types of RP in the main city alone. It's a pretty decent map in my eyes
If there are long empty roads, then how is there no space to build?
Take a look at 's amazing diner at the Beach in Rockford.
Long, empty narrow and ugly roads with no space to build compared to long empty and barely functional roads with tiny spaces to build.
We are after all CityRP not tiny quiet Canadian town RP, this was the downfall of Rockford. Trying to substitute a city with a terrible quiet rural town map.

I see empty roads with tons of opportunities, I dunno about you.
As others have pointed out, the main problem of Rockford was that it was too much wannabe-urban and not enough rural.
At least, in my opinion, it would be a nice change of pace to switch from a map focused 60% on the city to a quiet one that feels more like a vacation to the mountains.

Hell yea, I'm down to rename it. It's not like we're gonna be able to simulate a city with 20-30 players online lol

Well, I expected to be in a city, but with the number of players we have, it feels like walking in a post-apocalyptic aftermath in a city. I'd have a much better feeling of immersion if the setting was around a town.
Like I have said before, replying to your earlier comment, I think we should rename it to TownRP. It would be much more unique and more accurate.
Truenorth truely looks amazing... it's big, there's so much space to build and long empty streets where police chases would be fun aswell ... please add this map as an vote option
Alright so i've given Truenorth a quick analysis. The map is honestly amazing, it's one of the best maps i've seen on gmod in a long time and really does push the limits of the source engine. The Town is extremely RP focused into a small area, meaning that player interaction will be pretty high while in the town. There's a TON of shops on mainstreet and the surrounding areas which I think is extremely good, especially on lower playcounts. There's also lot of road to drive on outside the main city which is good for those who like to drive around/police chases. The map also comes with a USA mode which will change the flags/speed signs and any other regional stuff.
Performance wise the map is great and it's obvious the creator has taken time to optimise it well. Doors/windows/areas seem to have hints and areaportals in the correct places. The only tradeoff is that there's a few very minor visual bugs due to how source works, i'm happy though if it means getting a few more frames.
Wanting to give our player base a variety of options and a great experience, we are considering adding Truenorth in it's USA theme to the vote. If we do add it to the vote, this might result in you needing to redo your vote, however, this should not delay the change by a lot as the vote hasn't been out for that long as well as most of those who have voted are active community members.
We released the vote early and did not include Truenorth as we've recently had several updates be delayed by waiting on other releases. As there was no guarantee of Truenorth's timely release, we did not want to wait in the event it was delayed. Now the situation has changed, we're happy to hold a revote to include all the options.
I'll keep you updated on what we have decided on that end.
This is being done to bring you, our community the best options possible to give you the best experience.
Thank you for your understanding.
After trying the map out for a solid hour, here's my take on the map from a player's standpoint.
The list will be updated as I find more noteworthy and unique things to add:
Main City:
- The trees on the sidewalk move in the wind.
- The presidential office is big with a balcony to give speeches.
- The Town Hall has a back entrance for prisoner transport to the courtroom holding cells.
(Could also be used for raiding low-profile)
- Office building next to Town Hall has a rooftop entrance
(minor, but gives an opportunity to RP; no, the presidential balcony is not visible sadly)
- The ambient sounds (constant wind blowing), as well as the skybox (mountains all around), give an overall
chilly (as in cold) and from my experience in cold countries such as Austria, very real atmosphere.
- Huge police parking lot with a fenced off area (secure parking? impound lot?)
- Prison control room (haven't seen that since v4b1).
- Police Station is fused with the jails.
- The jails are massive compared to Rockford. Shower, courtyard, dining room.
- The cells itself open to a common area with a skybox. 14 cells in total (that means 28 prisoners).
They each have a toilet and bunk beds (2 prisoners per cell).
- Police Station has a common area (kitchen and sofas), a meeting/briefing room as well as an office area.
- Motels with apartments that each have 2 rooms + a living room (cause we all missed those).
- A big park in the middle of the city ( )
- 15 shops on one of the main streets.
(street with shops is called Railway Ave, there is another called Main St.)
- A retro diner in addition to your standard fast food ones ( )
- We still have underground parking if that's your turn-on.
- Hospital and Fire Dept. as expected.
- Auto Shop and Auto Repairs
Industrial/Outside:
- Big Warehouse
- Scrapyard
- A massive steel factory (Northern Steel) with another big warehouse.
- A sugar farm
- An actual moving train with railway crossings and bells and horns and all that.
- A massive river with empty riverbed, ripe for the taking.
- A suburbs (aka Richard Dr. aka villas aka mafia)
- Cinema
- Many many hideouts.
Mountains:
- Dirt road shortcuts between highways (feels like fricking NFS: Most Wanted in here)
- Hideaways (think Lake House but in the mountains)
- A lake with what seems like camping spots and vacation homes.
- Country roaaaads.
- A mineshaft system connecting multiple parts of the map. (Running from the police, I hear?)
Misc:
- There's a huge big orange hollow cube in the (non-visible) skybox so that might prove useful for devs to test inside or to build dupes inside on the build server.
And this is as far as I got, however, this map seems massive so I wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot more to it.
I think the thing I like the most about the map is it's layout. The map is large but RP is still very focused on mainstreet. The shops, government services and all of that stuff is focused into a small area of the town. So on low playercounts you can still get some RP interaction going on in the town as it's so focused, while with more players on you can branch out.
It's kinda ironic to me, how the same people who were objected to V5P because of it's size, even though it had a pretty decent central hub area, are now using that to justify true north? I have not had a look at it yet, so I will reserve my judgment for after that, I might even agree.
