Map rotation kills a server, map customisation is useless uless you already have a dedicated huge playerbase that will download and support a custom map (think nebulous cloud's constant changing of the industrial 17 map for HL2RP), very few new players are going to search for and download a custom map

First of all, I remember industrial 17 having one specific version for a long time that everybody used, though that was man moons ago so my feeble memory is not sure on that one (Found it:
rp_industrial17_v1)
Also, on the custom map, couldn't we just set it to auto-download when joining the server? I thought it was possible.
Edit: Btw I fully feel you on the not-having-physgun part on HL2RP. I played the gamemode for about 3 years and it was always my dream there to get "operator" rank so I can build things such as add to the scenery.

It is possible, but your map still shows as "not downloaded" in the server listing, and it still puts you down the server rankings.

It is possible, but your map still shows as "not downloaded" in the server listing, and it still puts you down the server rankings.

A Custom map would be interesting, I am not sure how much of an impact it would have with the server listing saying 'not downloaded' personally I never really look at that but I'm sure it would have some form of an impact.
I think Evocity is becoming boring for a lot of players now, but then the grass is always greener on the other side. Meaning people want a new map, get it then want Evocity or Rockford again wanting that nostalgia back. I still support the change however because simply walking around the southside I found so many places that could enhance roleplay although I would miss Evocity at some point.
The impact of a custom map heavily depends on its quality.
If you have a couple thousand bucks, and the right mappers to map a proper, creative, and theft proof map, it’ll most likely have a very positive impact.
However - Since even that would take months or years - Id just settle for Southside :p
