You: "Forgive me, where were shareholders mentioned?"

Infact no, I got confused as to why I mentioned shareholders but now I remember why. This quote was taken from Faustie's announcement.

(Mar 21, 2019, 12:38 PM)Preditor Wrote: In my personal opinion I think this was a bad decision to change the rule, It's been a few years since I've been on the team but never in all my years of city RP have I ran into a problem where I couldn't tell if someone was OOC or IC with their behavior, voice or not. It's usually clear to tell and can easily be handled one way or another for both parties.

The decision was made on more than just voice/text interactions. Descriptions which referenced OOC things, but in an IC way. License plates. Clan names/ranks. Job titles.

As I think was said before, it seemed that players (and to some extent staff) were having issues finding where that IC/OOC divide lay.

Well can you give me some examples of how it's used with clan names and ranks that could confuse people, or job titles too? (Black Beater Gang was a thing, with titles like "chief nigger whipper") Evidently I'd say the answer is in the same sentence, if it's obviously referenced in an OOC way despite it technically being "IC" isn't it OOC anyhow? At least assuming you know with purpose it is meant to be OOC and not just accusing because you may have an odd feeling.

In the case of a license plate, it's probably better to take it IC as it's what it's supposed to be, unless it comes to the extent of directly targeting someone OOCly such as "Preditor is a n*****" which I don't even believe the plates could extend that far and if someone ever did that I tip my hat to you.(There were multiple plates last year that were slurs etc)

Clans are generally IC organizations too. For the most part they are created and ran by players and they operate IC and run in the IC world. If I wanted to make a clan based on a street gang, or even groups like the KKK or the Black Panthers I'm not inherently driving it OOCly just by having the name in an IC situation. (It's when people use it as an excuse not RP. I remember the few times it was taken to a good RP was an Apartheid RP)

It's rather simple for a staff member to tell the difference in a clan/job title if it's "Bloods" or "N***** killers".

My point is, I understand that it's easy for people to be confused on the grey area of where the rules lie, however it doesn't take rocket science to understand where the drive is OOCly or ICly. What's important is how you interact and define what is allowed and what isn't, and by simply getting rid of the rule altogether it has seemed to upset the community more than help it.

In a way adding this rule, despite existing before in other cityRPs is restricting the levels and freedom people can have to roleplay.

It fails me to understand why we are taking this seriously. Pufitee just wants to a general minge and scream toxic and racist slurs just because well, he's a minge.

Now legal and  leftism is coming in to this. What?

This post isn't serious.

Many groups, as goigle mentioned, have little to no RP intentions or any background. I think that RP with regards to racism rule should be very slightly diluted and put on trial so that people can RP as Far Right groups, because this is the Internet, its hoing to get out of hand. Other topics, discussions, clans etc on LL have gotten out of hand before and will do again.

Maybe turn more extreme far-right and far-left groups into staff permission? Clans would have to be managed and maintained by trusted players, and like DictatorRP, people who want to do it poorly can be told to fuck off?

I doubt that this post/thread is not "serious". This rule change is a serious matter because it seriously limits roleplay abilities.

Neither does this. A thread made only 24 hours ago. But it already has 80 replies and over 1.200 views. This shows that this is indeed a serious matter which the community wants to discuss, with quite a clear answer (poll).

Better than an outright ban?

this should be reverted, all becasue one rascist fool and his anti black clan

I'd like to touch base on this quickly.

And before I start I would like to say that my views are not a representation of the views of the entire team.

Often times, people tend to take it too far when being racist/sexist/discriminatory IC. In-Character actions do have the potential to offend someone OOC, whether we like it or not. As said in the post, it's a risk Limelight as a Company cannot take. Limelight as a company needs to consider the possible legal repercussions of allowing players to use racist, sexist, and discriminatory remarks on their services. The actions of the community, such as someone potentially taking it too far with their racist/sexist/discriminatory roleplay could be seen as a negative impression on Limelight as a whole.

That being said, I recommend that everyone exercise reasonable judgment and so it won't be a problem to begin with. If you think something has the potential to be racist, sexist, or discriminatory, don't say it. I won't speak for the rest of the team, but I'm personally not looking forward to handing out a suspension to anyone for violating this rule if it comes to it (and before you say anything, don't assume that I won't. I will, I just wouldn't like it).

My question is if it’s a risk to use discriminatory and/or racist terms, why do other more popular businesses allow it on their platform without repercussions?

It's a risk more from managerial perspective than players ; if a 'member of staff, employee or contractor' wants to raise complaints regarding harassment, and the business overtly said it is fine, or proved in it's actions that it's fine then there's not much of a leg to stand on if it ever went to court.

Facebook and such maintains a free speech platform, but is still moderated and have filters to remove hateful comments, and ban accounts because of this.

Limelight prior to this change had elements of free speech (allowing IC racism) which would allow users to skirt the OOC rules, and target people individually.

It's not a major deal but as mentioned in main post, was to ere on the side of caution. With historically spiteful players, and knowing future players could be worse, it's a good move to avoid any potential hassle regarding this down the road. Although unlikely to ever happen, it is still a possibility which is why I imagine the team has suggested this be implemented.

I agree with others that it shouldn't be outright banned, but on a permission basis (allowing the RP opportunities as they develop, but limited to players whom aren't going to soley use it to troll).

Rule Britannia and that.
