That is a big one for many LGBT members. It is a place where most things are accepted.

Im not a fan of the pride month for one reason, its the fact that people go around celebrating their sexuality. You don't see heterosexuals walking around the streets for a month celebrating themselves being straight. I understand where the pride month stemed from, and i respect that. However, i would rather have it be pride week rather than month because there are larger concerns that are less noticed. And as cheet pointed out that autism and mental health have their own campaigns, but mental health as a whole is by many ignored. Im happy for LQBTQ+ people to celebrate, that's their human right. But i would love to see more awareness sent towards thing like mental health, starvation, countries oppressed by a dictator things that people forget exist. We have so much that we take for granted, there are people who don't have food, who don't have water. There are people who can get executed for being LGBT, we need to raise awareness about this.

See previous statements made by myself, they show that it isn't just that.

Edit: Also regarding mental health. It is pretty much the same as what Eddie has said. I came out in Yr9/10 at school, it was a horrible. The next 2 years of school were full of bullying and snarky comments, my mental health was awful and I had considered suicide multiple times. Most LGBT people, that I know/have spoken to, have mental issues due to things like bullying. I don't feel comfortable showing affection in public as you don't know how people will react or what they will say. Still now 2 years after I have left school I am still not comfortable being me outside of my home due to what happened. My mental health is still in the bin but slowly getting better. Pride is a time when I can be myself. I can go out to the parade meet people and not worry. I can go with whoever, do whatever and not have to worry. "We have so much that we take for granted" yes we do but there is a lot we can not change, there are things in place set up for everything like poverty, people not having clean water, people dying of illness, the list could go on and on. The LGBT is just celebrating how far it has come and its just a weekend (in most places) to enjoy yourself. No city will be parading for the whole month. It is one weekend and I am sure you can live with that.

And people are raising awareness of these issues. Pride is important, people are being killed for being gay. it's something like 75 countries where its illegal to be gay. Something like 2/3 of LGBT+ fear holding hands because of judgement or harrasment. 70% of people who play sports or watch have heard homophobic language in the past year. 1 in 8 LGB people avoid taking part in sports or going to the gym because they are scared, this in 2 in 5 for transgender people. Creating an equal world will help other areas in society such as mental health as people will feel less judged.

Swear down every year this gets posted and people complain about it. I really don't understand the point in people getting upset over this, it's not "shoved in your face" if you want to ignore it then ignore it. It is simply a celebration of the rights that LGBTQ+ people now have and is also a reflection on the struggles that they have had both in the past and the present.
So if you find yourself thinking that this whole month thing is stupid - just ignore it, it's not hurting you and let the people who want to celebrate it celebrate it.
At the end of the day, it's really not a big deal and I don't see why people every year complain about it, just ignore it.

Funny I've never seen any straight person oppressed for their sexuality.

Then push for a national memorial month, no one is stopping you. There is no point in you complaining when you aren't actively doing anything to push for a national memorial month yourself.

Any reason to be rude about it? You can raise awareness and pay respects any time you want. No one is stopping you. And “fuck off.”

This wasn't even a discussion on do you agree or not it was just simply a statement. Yet some of the community have to be against the statement for some reason. It doesn't affect you.

There are many places where LGBTQ+ is punishable by death and even in democracies they are still oppressed, stigmatized and marginalised. A long way has come since Stonewall, and there is still some to go.

The LGBTQ+ Community have every right to have a month for themselves, not to 'push' it, but to celebrate they are not being shot in the street or put in extermination camps for being merely who they are as they were in history.

We must also remember that Veterans died in order for us to be in this position - to rightfully be who we are.

I'll say again: I hope you all have a good time, I am staunchly Pro-LGBTQ+ so Happy Pride Month!

I should probably point out, I am in no way anti-LGBT I just disagree with them having an entire month to celebrate, when others who have arguably done more for society do not get anywhere near the amount of recognition

Why bother posting? It was a statement not “what do you think?”. I agree with you that other groups have done more for society. If you care so much raise awareness for them, support them, encourage them. You are one of the reason I fucking love pride. Guess what, I fucking deserve a month dedicated to people who have died so that I can comfortably be out in my community. I deserve to enjoy who I am around people like me. I don’t have to worry about abuse. A month is right. The LGBT makes up a large percentage of people. Like me and other people have said MULTIPLE times, no one celebrates it for the whole month, cities do one weekend. Even if it was fully celebrated for a year how does that affect you? I’d love to know. Why do you, and others, always have to post things that are against the majority. Seems like you just love being annoying.
