(Jan 1, 2019, 10:16 PM)Kvatch Wrote: Moving away from frames and lag, I'm gonna talk about the feel of the map, and the usefulness of some of the buildings.

The Town Hall was quite the sore thumb during my sessions today. Only 1 room for the President, no rooms for the Secret Service or Vice-President, and a LOT of fake doors, I found this building to be rather frustrating to play in. The desks in the lobby have no way of getting behind them without jumping over it, which seems silly and ruins RP immersion. The amount of fake doors really does put you off that top floor, and the lack of any sort of security office destroys any RP sense of having the secret service even spawn there, imo.

The street next to Main Street with all the tiny shops and apartments seems quite slacky. The copy-pasted buildings show no uniqueness at all, apart from the textures on the walls and floor. There's just something about this that ruins the street. Not to mention the overly used apartment floors and rooms.

Moving away from the lacking buildings in the inner city, the outer city also features some rather questionable design ideas. The absolute labrynth that is the road system is confusing to new players and will put them off wanting to play on Limelight because of this map. I frequently find myself either going in circles, or just ending up back at the city when I'm trying to reach a specific location. It seems like the map creator tried making a realistic layout with the roads - fair - but we don't have a GPS system to aid the emergency services in arriving promptly on scene. If there's a shoot out, the culprits will be gone before the police even arrive on scene. That's realistic and great and all, but we also lack the "detective RP" features needed to chase up this kind of RP.

Overall, I feel as though there's some great potential for this map. I'm giving my honest opinion in the points I made above, and I think in the future, the map would be a good candidate for selection. Right now, we need a better map. One that's established, has gone through versions based off of suggestions/feedback, and not the very first release of a map that only released a week ago. It looks nice on the trailer, it looks nice from a distance, but up close, inspecting the map and it's functionality, it's just not Limelight. It doesn't feel like a Limelight map, and won't do until it's had a few versions, and has been polished up by the creator.
I agree and I would also like to mention that when you die it can take up to around 20 mins and above to find where you died and where your car is. I feel a system should be implemented to despawn your vehicle or something along the lines of 2 vehicles out at once to make this situation easier

That area exiting the city to industrial stutters for me as well as well as the crossroads to the left of town hall. These are most likely areas that load/unload portions of the map.

We don't want a map that has issue's to be fixed, we want a map that works already.

Unfortunately I don't see such an option with our current choices.

1. It's not an option.
2. It's boring.

A lot less boring than driving around a map with no one to be seen playing on it

I for one like chilling alone in my car in the outbacks as much as I like to do it in real life, however
for me, v4b1 is just an old yeller that should be put down. We've used it and we've got used to it.

How do you get enjoyment from just idling in the middle of nowhere???? How is that RP????? V4B1 was loaded with shops, RP, and plenty of action.

Basically what Octagon said. Driving around and standing in a cabin admiring low resolution gmod textures isn't what Limelight is about.

Driving is a fun and important part of the server, but it isn't the #1 priority and the key thing that should be concentrated on is ideally RP, it really should be what's on everyone mind and unfortunately in my opinion True North just isn't an RP map. In a perfect world we'd have v4b1, it is really a shame that it's not an option taking into account that performance seems to be on par between v4b1 & True North, yet TN is still under consideration.

It really is suprising that so many people have complained about performance in the case of v4b1, map size in the case of v5p yet those concerns seem to have been thrown out the window when it comes to True North. ie; map being much larger than any "RP" map that I am aware of and having terrible performance for most people it seems.

Many are emphasizing the relaxing nature of True North, while that's all good and nice. RP really is about interaction and this map is anti-interaction much like Rockford. The map creator has obviously tried to do things differently to other maps but True North has all the glaring issues and failures of Rockford.

If you like driving around on your own with no interaction maybe Single Player fits you better than CityRP
