For years I’ve always done the same thing. Go on, see the quality of the RP deteriorate, disconnect, repeat. I've actually been playing on FL for quite some time, even before the split, and I've seen some pretty good RPs this past year since I joined Limelight, even recently. It's fair to say quality RPs are harder to find these days, and that might be cause players are more concentrated on being wealthy, than having a good time roleplaying or even cause of low playerbase. We should still give credit and appreciate the good roleplayers we still have, they're the ones trying to keep the servers alive after all.

Calling the community toxic is a scapegoat. As Aryen said, there are quality RP’s, but at the moment the only real reason to RP is monetary gain. I can tell y’all for certain that the dev team is working on something HUGE to address this small piece of the puzzle.

Gmod is far from dying. It’s held 25-30,000 players since 2013 if I remember right.

What are you thinking will be the new base game? What compares to Gmod except for a VERY loose comparison to Roblox?

All of those things are true. However, I still answered the question.
For me to get back into LL or Gmod, I'd need a new base game with an engine made in the last few years as Source has gotten much too stale for me
to enjoy playing in this environment. Plus I'm going to college so I need more than just changes to Limelight to "re-spark my interest".

This is actually part of the problem, people are all too eager to sit and complain but fail to do anything themselves to encourage the changes they wish to see.

Agreed. And not only complain, play for a total of 7 hours for the entire year and complain. Can't see how anyone could know the situation whatsoever with so few hours, seems like any excuse to have a whinge to be honest, RP can be drastically improved if you just apply yourself to actually making it for yourself

Everyone is bringing up a good point here. Many are bored of the only type of RP they know, aggressive. We’ve spent too long encouraging shootouts and money-making, in that we’re constantly catering for them. As a result, man people aren’t even aware they’ve just done a passive rp because they were so involved in looking for threats and other such. They find the server lacking in content because there’s no combat related content. We’ve weaned ourselves off of our aggressive RP addiction and manny haven’t followed suit.

Also the fact that there is a weird stereotype that all passive rps must be abundant with /me and /it to the point a normal interaction takes x5 longer.

Staff should be encouraging people to do roleplays that don't need a silly amount of /me and /it but rather add an actual factor of "wow that's cool" to people around it.

I kind of feel the problem is the opposite.

LL is at its core, a cops and robbers type gamemode with mostly light RP aspects.

Id hazard a guess and say people play a lot more to have a good fun shootout and to RP on the side, and this isn't a bad thing because historically from FL to LL, such a thing has actually lead to more RP on the side and the creation of large RP groups.

From first hand experience: We have really done more to DISCOURAGE aggressive RP types in LLs history than encourage it. As time has gone on its become far harder to actually engage in combat, raids, fights of any kind due to policy changes and enforcement methods being FAR to strict, limiting and a heavy handed approach.

Yes we've tried to add more passive systems, but in the end every single passive system we have is there simply to support the combat that takes place, no matter what it is. It's the War Economy, everything funnels into it.

Fishing: Food for combat
Paramedics: Healing wounded from combat 80% of the time
Chefs: Food for combat
Mechanics: Fixing dead cars from combat most of the time
Gun Dealers: Prime source of combat weapons
BMD: Basically another form of Gun Dealer
Various Gang jobs: Sole purpose is to get into fights, but this is heavily discouraged and frowned upon.

EVE Online is basically the same, yes there is RP, yes there is large scale diplomacy and talks you couldn't imagine, BUT it all falls apart if there is no war, as every single aspect of that game is linked to its war economy, and LL is basically the same in the end.

I don't really agree with this. I rarely partake in combat, yet do these all the time.

The point is with those is that they all, directly and indirectly exist to support the war economy of LL.

Yes a small % of the playerbase do this just to relax and what not, but in the end if you sell that fish, you are indirectly supporting it.

This all isn't a bad thing, and I need to stress that.

It's just how things are and we need to accept that aggressive RP and Passive are the same thing, that both lead to each other and stop fighting against it.
