With that PSU, your electricity bill must be quite high.

Was about to say, 1200 Watts is abit overkill, altough that should not increase his electical bill

It's not about the maximum wattage, it's about how many watts he actually uses. His electricity bill won't be any higher than it would be with a more appropriate power supply.

It was a waste of money though, really.

How come? Maybe he wants to upgrade to dual SLI in the future.
However, if the used watts stay in the lower levels, the psu will operate quite inefficient

A system with dual GTX 1080tis would still be nowhere near 1200 watts. It would typically only need a 850-950 watt power supply.

Future-proofing is a very poor concept nowadays as computer parts change so much. Buying a high-capacity power supply in particular isn't a good idea because components are getting more efficient rather than more power hungry nowadays.

The stronger the PSU, the cooler and more silent it is.

That's incorrect on so many levels. The wattage is not a measure of heat efficiency, it is the potential wattage the power supply could supply.

Temperatures and noise levels are dependent on the model and efficiency curve of the power supply. Whilst it is true that efficiency tends to be worse when you are maximising the power supply's wattage, this would still not be the case with a 850-950 watt power supply.

I got a really good deal on the PSU. I had a 50% off coupon for a new PSU on Newegg because they fucked up really badly and sent the one I ordered to the wrong address TWICE, so they gave me that one for the price of the 900Watt one I was going to buy.

Oh, nice! I guess it doesn't really hurt to have those extra watts.
