If you smack a 420 blazeit awm headshot and forgot to turn recording on, its good to have shadowplay running ALWAYS so you can save the last 5/10/15 minutes.

GeForce Experience also needs to be started every time the computer is turned on. There's no difference.

No, what I'm saying is that OBS can save the replay buffer even after you've exit your game, whereas usually ShadowPlay can only save replay buffers when you're in-game (so if GMod suddenly crashes, you've lost your recording).
You can set OBS to game capture, desktop capture, window capture or region capture. It's the most versatile recording software, and you don't even need to fiddle with settings like most people think. In fact, the 'Indistinguishable quality' preset is better than most people's custom settings (as a lot of people fiddle without knowing what they're doing).
I also have the issue you have with ShadowPlay's overlay not working consistently, which is why I explored the option of OBS in the first place. Yeah well when I just want to save a quick highlight from a game it’s wayyyyyy easier in shadowplay
Saving replay buffers works the same way. The only thing OBS lacks is the overlay, which doesn't really make much of a difference.

It makes a hell of a difference because you don't have to tab in out in out

You can easily set a hotkey in OBS, which is what most people do.

Let's keep on topic of fixing the issue and not trying to replace it.
Hey, @ Murdoch Murdoch,
Please double check that you have your in-game overlay activated.
