just thought id open a discussion, see what everyone thinks

playercount has been lacking recently and im curious to as of why?

i understand everyone has their own lives, were not kids no more. we cant get home from school/college and hop on our favourite garrysmod server like we used to. so what is your reason for not playing? busy life? not enough to do? boring? discuss below

i hope to get some community imput here, the last thing we all want to see is limelight close its servers once again. ive been having a absolute blast personally with it all. i dont want to see it happen again

il start off however, i enjoy the server. community is great, staff team are very helpful and genuine. i enjoy building dupes and roleplaying with other players. i tend to make myself "find" the roleplay or "create" the roleplay to keep myself entertained. i dont really play as often due to real life being real life i suppose. work, family, friends. it all adds up. personally i think the servers in a good place content wise but theres always room for more. thus being said the developers are busy people, they have lives too. cant fault em. they all work super hard to keep our experience great (shoutout dev team you guys are the goats). we just need to drive players into the server, how? im unsure. usually the new zero hour players try to be the next bubgames and get their 5 mins of fame getting banned and making peoples experience shit. we need something to bring these new people in and keep them in. (as weird as that sounds)

Personally, I'm on the last few weeks of my University course before I'm all done and dusted. So I've just been super busy with assignments and wrapping up my work.
I love the server to bits and I hate to come back to see a drop in players so I'd love it to resurge sooner rather than later.
I do come on every so often where I can but once I'm done, I'll be much more available.

Hey this is not to show off my amazing video skills, but if it was, that's what I did! I also have no effort to make a signature, so this is what you're stuck with.

I work a lot of evening / night shifts, run a car club and also run a business outside of LL so struggle to find the time to be able to frequently play now'a'days. As was mentioned, life is just being life! That being said, when I do get the time I really enjoy playing with what we've currently got and am enjoying seeing the server & community heading in the right direction

Personally, I think when new players join it can be a bit overwhelming with no clear direction on how to actually get started with roleplaying. It's not like the other servers in the DarkRP category, requiring a much different type of play style from what they might be used to. Maybe a tutorial of sort, guiding them to certain aspects of the server - I know for a fact a lot of new players I talk to immediately want to go Police, however are stuck behind the 4 hour playtime barrier (which I don't disagree with). Often I find them just standing around waiting the time out (if they haven't already got themselves banned) as there's no obvious direction on what else they could be doing with their time

Maybe it could be looked into for having an interactive tutorial for new players, directing them to chopping some wood, doing some mining, maybe a tour of the map with an explanation of what each area entails (I.E. Lake: this is where you can fish to gain food to consume and/or sell | Corleone: an area run by the mafia, useful for conducting underground activities | etc) through either a cutscene or by giving them a trabant and some directions, when they hit a certain waypoint it gives them a short explanation or even then a cutscene. Although RP Assistants play a huge role is supporting players, I don't think it should be solely down to them as they may still want to have their own time to RP, but equally all new players should be offered support to get them started to find the fun in LimeLight like we all did

Another option could be to update the F1/F4 menu to include an in-game guides section, offering easy to follow tutorials on game aspects, what the requirements are for completing the task and what benefits could follow. Naturally this wouldn't include everything as it's important they retain the urge to find out in-character (I.E. Meth recipes). It could be based from simple PNG's, or linking to the guides section within the forums (doing it this way might be a good opportunity to show them the forums exist, and the wealth of knowledge that can be found here not just through the guides section). I myself would happily write up some of these guides to support new players finding their feet

The community can't live on just the "old" players, we need to actively target new players to a) get them in and b) get them to stay.

Easter holidays start next week for (most) schools, I imagine those 2 weeks would bring a lot of new members in. We'd just need to make sure to retain those players.

Hey all,

Firstly totally agree on all fronts with what’s being said, and hopefully it’s comforting to know there’s a similar discussion in our team area at the moment.

Personally I’ve been seriously ill since Feb on and off, genuinely ld love to be playing but when I’m not feeling like absolute junk whilst I’m recovering generally I don’t wanna be sitting on my own on the server :/ and echoing everyone else I’m now working full time and have a partner/house/cat to look after so naturally my time is more precious than before.

In terms of plans we’ve got a new player guide in the works (nearly done I just have been too sick to project manage it recently) that’ll tide us over till we can get a more permanent solution in future such as a tutorial mission etc. we’ve got a big overhaul planned of one of our core item classes and as a core team we’ve been having some promising discussions regarding limelight’s general commercial strategy… sorry I can’t go into it much but as nothing has been agreed I don’t want to seed any false promises Smile

Financially we’re fine and will be till Christmas I think at this point, so we have the time to try things and hopefully work our way back to a stable playerbase Smile

Yeah NGL work's been busy, I had a bunch of free time a few weeks ago - not so much now. I'll still get on for events and stuff but just hard to prioritize gmod over real life in really any capacity atp.

We need younger players who have unlimited free time, all the "old" players are in their mid 20's and have real life priorities. I'm sure there's some way to target newer players but I think the oldie momentum died down a little bit because everyone is getting busy as the spring and summer comes around.
