I've checked the Limelight forums once in a while since the servers closed to realize it's still here. Frozen in time with a lot of stuff still running and working. I don't seem to be alone either since I often see other members still logging in as well.

What is the reason that everything is still running? Someone has to pay for the server, domain, etc? Is it being paid with old donation money? Are there any plans on what to do with the community or is it just being kept alive for the nostalgia?

Also, why is there a gamemode build from not so long ago? 👀

Everything's still running because someone on the team is paying for it out of their own pocket. We've got some personal stuff running on the machine, and it's not super expensive to keep running, and there's only a little bit of maintenance to keep things like the forums running.

Unfortunately though, those latest builds are just me merging automatically created pull requests Sad

We were doing some work, trying to see if we could make it to a position where we could sell / open source the gamemode, but there's so much shit we don't have licenses for, so much work to get it in a position where it'd be sellable, we weren't able to do it with the limited manpower we had, unfortunately.

So instead we get this, all the history still available for anyone who wants to see it, suggestions and ideas for whoever's out there making the next generation of servers. I just hope they don't fall into the same pitfalls we did.
