H&M Pullover leads to violent protests in South Africa

The fashion company H&M recently released a pullover with the labeling "Coolest monkey in the jungle" featuring a young black skinned model. This lead to public outrage and a lot of criticism towards H&M, leading them to take back the article, publicly excusing themselves for the marketing.

Due to massive protests infront of H&M branches, H&M decided to temporarily shut down all of their stores. Lead by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) some of the protesters stormed the stores by force, devestating them.

"The times for excuses for racism are over" EFF-speaker Mbuyiseni Ndlozi told. "There have to be consequenzes.".

Hypocritically enough, a wrongly meant pullover lead them commit violent crimes, and im pretty sure the injured police officers having to deal with that had not so much to do with the creation of this pullover, neither did the stores. It has been reported that they did not only devestate the stores, but also stole wares. Due to this i have to presume a different intention than the fight against racism.

Sometimes I wonder if people in Marketing actually think about what they are publishing. Although I do feel for the staff who work in these stores that have shut down and hope they all still get full days pay.

Even if someone in Marketing messed up, this type of violence was unnecessary.

Funny thing is, it's only racist because they're applying racist connotations to it. If it was an asian kid no one would care, but because it's a black kid you can't call them a monkey? Why is it that it only applies to one race? Oh wait, those spouting racism are in themselves, inherently racist.

Rule Britannia and that.

I do not believe that H&M would intentionally advocate racism because there would be nothing to make out of it. Besides many SJW's and so called anti-racists rages at H&M at their "racism" because of some stupid ad yet they have never criticised the company for its factory workers bad living and working conditions in the third world. Besides as Jono stated it's only racist because theyre applying racist connotations to it, because its a black child suddenly people start to speak up because they affiliate black people with monkeys.

I've read something among those lines aswell.
I don't know. I think some people prefer to be destructive than to be productive.

Yea the child had taken over 100 pictures all with different sets of cloths, they just happened to pic this one as it was probably the most good looking.

its not that big of a deal
so what
the mother was fine with it
the kid was fine with it
who the hell cares

also they're not protests if they're violent, once they become violent, they are riots.

There's no way to win. If they didn't allow the boy to model for that top, it could be argued to be racist as they are treating him differently based on his race.

Eyup. Those who accuse others of racism are incredibly racist themselves, unfortunately.

If I was to protest against your comment, I would go against it. Whether that's peacefully accomplished or not, it's a protest. The definition of riot is "a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd", so a non peaceful protest does not automatically become a riot, but can be considered as a riot if it is a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd.

Jono sums up my opinion on this controversy. H&M did nothing wrong imo and anyone who believes they did is inherently racist.
