Not sure what you're trying to get at? I didn't  mention a RV or CDM anywhere in my response.

I don't see how both of your replies add anything useful to the discussion of this problem.

I'd say we keep it on-topic and focussed on the issue of officers discharging their firearms unnecessarily or too soon.

I'd like to see more police players actually RP instead of just shoot the suspect. I understand most people think "I have a gun! Aggressive RP only time!" As a police officer you can do crime scene cleanup, train others, or even have an evidence auction to raise money for a police station.

And don't get me started on the players that shoot suspects in a pursuit when the suspect isn't even a threat to safety.

i usually shoot once they hit another vehicle or almost hit a person

there'd be a lot less people dying if you could just use spike strips without rep

i dont want a fucking rep just let me use the god damn spike strip

It's funny because there was a time where spike strips weren't behind a rep wall and were part of the default police loadout. Then at one point they decided to lock it behind a rep.

Similar to the level system on some servers which stops new players from becoming jobs that start with weapons, the REP requirement makes sense to me personally. As a new player joining the server, maybe with a few friends, you'd be very tempted to troll around and start placing spikes down infront of oncoming traffic. I personally think a playtime requirement system should replace the REP system entirely. The REP system can sometimes be a bit biased and unless you're roleplaying WITH an Admin, you're unlikely to even get one.

They are only supposed to use lethal force when there is an active threat.

There is always another side too,
People never think about giving up, and when an officer has exhausted all his tools, you know you may be shot.

The pursuit that we had yesterday is a good example of how pursuits SHOULD be executed. I was driving away in my RV and Project was chasing me. Whenever he came up beside me, I'd wait until there was an oncoming wall or sign, I'd push him to the side so he'd crash into the obstacle. It was about 5 minutes later that I crashed into a wall and as I tried to escape, he got out and shot me.
a) He used spike strips before he used his firearm (they failed).
b) He didn't use lethal force until absolutely needed (after I had already damaged his car and killed someone).
c) He waited until I was stuck to reduce the number of civilians witnessing the shooting.

But does an active threat count as running a red light? Sure, you could hit somebody, but people shouldn't be crossing if they see oncoming traffic anyway and if you're staying on the roads and within the right lane, no officer should have any excuse whatsoever to pull a firearm and shoot at you. The only reasons that they should be allowed to do this is if you've either killed someone, almost killed someone, or are an immediate threat to the lives of civilians which is out of their control, ie. driving on the pavements or onto public walkways.

To be completely honest, I don't bother chasing the RV anymore. The thing is a tank and 9/10 the driver will kill the police by either brake checking or by using it's broken weight. Hell, it take 3 spike strips to take it down.

When the team say "active threat" we do mean life-threatening circumstances e.g. someone attempting to run you over with a vehicle. Even though you're not allowed to use a vehicle as a weapon, it is a circumstance where we will accept lethal force. It really just comes down to common sense and ensuring that the force you apply is proportionate to what is actually going on.

Alright guys, time to state something.

LL will never have a fair or realistic police force. *Audience gasp*

It's a semi serious server so you should expect people to act accordingly. Another thing is, even though the RP can be great not everyone knows how to be a police officer. It's not just about pulling out a gun or shooting people, and when it comes to highs-peed chases you're actually not even meant to hit the car being chased as a police officer unless they are a danger or you're in a safe position to do it accordingly. Instead you're supposed to just follow until they either bail out or crash.

Unfortunately as I said, this is semi serious. Do NOT expect players to act that way. As a police officer I do treat threats how they would be treated in a real manner, if they are just speeding then you chase after them. If they run red lights then you chase after them. If they collide with a car and crash then you carefully try to apprehend them and provide medical treatment to anyone on the scene. However if they continue to ram cars that are in the way and drive around like complete idiots (unfortunately this is the majority of drivers) then they are taken down anyway possible.

TLDR: Semi serious, don't expect things to work realistically. If you're a driver getting chased by cops the best you can do is not become a danger to others around you (good luck). If you're a cop, ask yourself if you absolutely have to shoot this idiotic individual running from police, and be certain that there's no other alternative that you can take at that moment.
