People just stop with the gun law discussions. Start a thread somewhere else. I've already said what I believe on it but I think it's rather annoying that this opinion keeps coming from more or less outsiders from other countries, not that it makes a difference but you don't understand what it's like to live here so don't tell us how to live here.

You don't get much in the way of being able to criticise the constitution if you can't cite the right amendment.( Even you guys have rights against unlawful search and seizure.)
As for the gun argument (2nd amendment), I felt a lot safer when my home was broken into at 3AM in January, as I was able to use my firearm to defend myself and my family withot being stabbed by a crackhead. I would rather have a gun over anything else, looking back to that moment.

I don't really agree with the "more guns" concept as if you did some research, there was an off duty officer in the club working a security detail. He returned fire however was completely outgunned and he retreated until more officers came. If an officer, who is very well trained, retreats, then what is Joe Nobody gonna do pulling out his Sig to attempt to shoot this guy in a room with over 300 people? Not too mention it would be idiotic to be able to bring a gun in a club like this with the drinking going on. The main thing that could have prevented this is if the FBI had a "No Buy" list like they do with flying. They throw people on this list and they're not able to buy firearms. Sure, they can get them other ways, but these were purchased legally and most likely could have been prevented.

It was a typo which I've now corrected as I wrote the late at night. As for the right to criticise, Jim Jefferies once said in his stand up routine "Your 1st Amendment means I can say your 2nd Amendment sucks dicks". I'm allowed to put my view across just as much as you are.

I never said that America should abolish all weapons but rather ban the sale of shotguns and rifles across all states. America should also implement stricter gun ownership laws and tougher background checks when purchasing handguns which is all you need to defend your home (Even though there are these people called Police who are paid to do that for you).

What annoys me is one of my school... student thinks its really funny and that they deserve it.

Later on he came to me saying 'So, whats YOUR opinions on the Orlando shooting? I heard fifty gay people died. Lets hope he will come over here'.

Its disgusting, a horrible disgusting event that happened. My thoughts go to everyone that was injured and / or killed.

You can say ban rifles, however handguns are the leading weapon that kill. According to FBI crime statistics, 68% of murders with firearms are done by a handgun. 0.03% are killed by a rifle and 0.03% are killed by a shotgun. Now, wouldn't it be logical to ban a weapon that commits 68% of murders, most likely more, than two types of weapons that don't even account for 1%? Knifes kill more people than rifles and shotguns combined, so why aren't knives banned too?

https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/cr...9-2013.xls

We can even look at more recent ones, where handguns are used in the commission of still over 70%, sometimes 80% of the crimes.

This thread was made to Inform and discuss the shootout in Orlando and share condolences and/or personal feelings towards th event.
Seeing as most of this thread's derailed, I've made a Serious Discussion thread on the topic of Gun Control; redirect related replied there.

It really troubles me that people are pointing the finger to IS etc and saying the guy was an extremist etc...you'd think there was a radical racist up for presidential election or something....oh wait...

This has been pinned as terrorism due to the mans name, his skin colour etc, until the recording from the 911 call is released that is all speculation that the media are running with, who was the US official that said this, why hasn't the recording been released ?

Here's an article that hasn't got as much coverage https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-m...story.html

Why hasn't that man been construed as a terrorist ? Why hasn't he been linked to IS ?

The problem is radical or extremist Muslims as the moderator about so naively pointed out, how many mass shootings has there been in America over this year alone (only 2016) ? 136 mass shootings, how many of them were carried out by "alleged" "Muslim extremists" only one....now to say the issue here lies with extremism is a load of shit.

The government would like you to think that it is the case but it's really not, the simple fact of the matter is that too many people can get guns so easily. There is more suicides in America than most other countries, most of which involve a gun.

Americas gun laws are failing to protect the most vulnerable people in their communities by giving them access to a lethal weapon that results in instant death or serious injury. Instead of helping people in a time of crisis they hand them a gun so they can go shoot up the streets or shoot themselves. This guy was nothing other than suffering from mental illness, to say he was ISIS is a load of balls he had no direct links, he was not under their control, he had not been to Syria or anything like that, he was an American citizen, most likely confused about his sexuality, given the reports he was a regular in the very same club, with no one else to turn to, upset and suffering quietly inside.

Instead of scapegoating him as a terrorist like the rest of the world have some sympathy for the trouble he must have been going through, have some empathy for his family and friends and least of all show respect to all the victims.

At least have the decency to hear solid evidence before using someone as a scapegoat so political parties can use this as a focal point.

You want a gun simple. Go through the same process as a woman that wants an abortion.

Speak to two different doctors for them to agree and check you over medically to ensure you are in a fit and sound state of mind, then wait for background checks to come through, once you have your weapon go through mandatory training and counselling should you need it.

It's only going to get worse. They are not learning from their mistakes. Yes, it is horrible that this happened, but things like this will keep happening, unless actions are taken.
