Although I can imagine permanent warnings being annoying if they're lingering on your HUD forever.

Can be removed if you appeal in the courthouse section

Eh.

I believe this is a good system in theory, but the way its working now I don't agree with.

Staff should be able to ping players warning messages sure, but they shouldn't stick around forever on the player's HUD.

I think a good system would be the way Clockwork does it, where Staff can add warnings, it will ping the player, but it wont be there forever on the player's side, there's a file for each player listing off warnings, and staff are also able to add custom notes about the player, hidden from them.

Just my opinion.

Admins/Mods have files about players warnings. Its all bundled to the /warnings <player>  command where staff members can view/add/remove warnings of a player. Temp warnings are removed once the player disconnects or if removed by a staff member. Perm warnings are persistent on hud but player can appeal a removal in the Courthouse section Smile
Nonetheless perm warnings can also be removed by a staff member in game

Well yeah, I knew that temp ones went away. As for the Perma ones, at least make them smaller? From the picture they look almost as big as the actual HUD itself.

Now I get what you mean mate. So lets only print temp ones on HUD and have perm ones in a list?

Venom has suggested the same on Kik. Good idea but requires some changes to the system. I will push an updated version of the warn system later.

- Do only print temp warnings on HUD, which are removed upon disconnection/removal by staff
- Give players access to their list of perma warnings in derma view

Two questions:

Any way for Teachers to have input in this?  There are times when we have tried to work with this Burnett person, given warnings, tried to give examples, but Burnett just won't stop getting into his car two minutes after death.  If a Teacher could give a warning it might help staff know that Burnett had assistance but chose to just ignore it.  That darn Burnett!

Second question, where can we get transcripts of BlackDog's poetry?

Thanks!

I don't want teachers to have the power to give warnings, cause the system can be easily abused by them (specially with bias teachers towards friends). Plus as the name says they're teachers, they're supposed to guide players not enforce rules and give warnings (that's what the moderators and admins are for).

It's a totally different command that'll rarely affect other players, if a teacher screws up with announce he'll burn himself. If a teacher abuses warning it's a totally different matter, it affects the player itself. Power hungry and bias teachers will easielly ruin the experience for players, plus like I said before, their role is not to enforce rules but to guide the players.

Giving teachers warning powers would be something that needs to be discussed internally, but I doubt that it would happen. We promote teachers based on who we think would be good at teaching new players to roleplay etc., but they don't have any formal administrative training. We want to continually improve our quality of administration, and so only those with formal training (mods and above) will be given access to commands like this. It's nothing personal against the teachers, but the teacher position serves a different role than administration and we don't want to blur the lines between teacher and mod too much.

In my opinion Teachers shouldn't have access to give warnings as they are not a higher rank than players. Teachers are to help players with roleplay and basic rule knowledge.

Their access to use the announce command is only to enhance roleplay events.

Fair enough, certainly understand that. Overall my goal is to help both players and staff, that is what I've always strived for and consider the teacher role a good fit for that.

I like to see updates like this to make your jobs easier.
