Every time I join the server I get stuck at the following download.

Chances are I get to join but most of the time my game just crashes.

That happens to me, Just make sure when loading in, 1) tabbed in 2) Don't click out. Pretty much just leave your PC while you load in. That might work

I never alt + tab out of a loading program, I never touch my mouse in a loading program
So this shouldn't be the problem

2) Removing addons then reinstalling them (https://limelightgaming.net/forums/thread-11091.html)
3) Run in window mode or make the start up command as -windowed

AFAIK you only get the "x has stopped responding" message once you click on the program?

I already unsubbed all addons then resubbed on all LL content.
I always run GMod as -windowed -noborder
I will try 1 once I get home

I suggest trying the 64-bit beta. It improves performance and the only issue that I've found is that photon configs don't save sometimes.
It gets stuck on that material for me, too. It isn't the download that's the problem (since Garrys Mod is still doing stuff in the background), it's just that Garry's Mod uses the same thread for video and the actual game. Good for 2010, not so much now.
This is also why the game window freezes a lot of the time whilst loading; source engine is a buggy piece of lemon turd sometimes.
Also, make sure there's nothing running in the background whilst loading and do not touch anything whilst loading. Once you're loaded, you can launch stuff.

It went that way because I opened ShareX to take the picture
