I wouldn't consider homosexuality a mental illness. We see many gay animals, but no sex-changing animals except for a few fish, e.g. clownfish, which also has sex with its offspring. They change their sexes for their species to survive, humans do not.

Humans exist to breed, reproduction is one of the key functions of an individual (In a biological, objective sense) if someone doesn't have the interest to reproduce they are, at a biological level not functioning as intended.

Being gay isn't a mental illness but it's also not a normal sexuality.

Mister biology teacher here, humans do have sex for the main porpose of breeding, there happens to be a side effect of it, the great feeling. If it was not the porpuse of sex to reproduce, your body would not invest energy in making and 'ejecting' the semen all the time. As Apex said the main biological 'purpose' of all individuals on earth (bacteria, fungi, animals, etc, etc.) is to reproduce. If an individual does decide not to reproduce it will eventually die without having any offspring. Of course this is not beneficial for the whole species. However there are some side-purposes the having sex with for example same-sex inviduals. See below.

About the homosexuality, all around us in nature we see homosexuality. It is extremely common behaviour across the whole animal kingdom. All sorts of animals do it, from insects to all chordata. And there is a reason for this homosexual behaviour, with some species females mount the male individuals to encourage them to mate more. With other animals sex, straight or gay is to cement social bonds and climb the social ladder in a pecking order. You might think this is contradicting with Darwin's idea's, but it isn't animals have way more offspring then they need to 'replace' themselfs in the specie. Due to the fact that homosexuality stimulates the fact that animals have more sex they also have more offspring then they need for the specie to survive and maintain.

Being gay or lesbian isn't something I'd consider a mental disorder. It just means you're sexually attracted to the same sex. Although it can be interpreted as such its not the same thing as transgenderism.

Being transgender is believing you're the opposite gender and sex when you're not. If I'm a guy that thinks I'm a girl, that is, in my opinion, a mental disorder. Does that make it bad? No, plenty of people have mental disorders.

The thing is the transgender community has an extremely high suicide rate, more than most other communities in this "color" spectrum. It's dangerous and I would rather people not encourage others to partake in such thinking. If you believe you are whatever you want to be, fine. But don't go around saying science and biology is wrong and you are right.

I do not agree with the idea that gender and sex are different things either, gender is based off of sex and it is so because we use a thing called words. We created the fact that a woman is related to a human having a vagina, and that's what a woman is, just like a man is created in relations to having a penis. 

Until science can genetically, down to the chromosome change our sex, you cannot be a different sex no matter how much you tell yourself. However if you want to personally believe it then fine don't let me stop you, but don't tell me science is wrong and that I don't know what I'm talking about.

That shit disgusts me. How the fuck do you expect an infant to make a decision that will affect their whole life. Parents make all the important decisions for their kids for a good reason. If you allow your kid to fuck that up you’re a horrible parent.

I think this whole conversation is great.  Just a bunch of opinions.  Nothing actually solid to go on.  Homosexuality is found in nature, gender transformation is found in nature.  Just because you feel some sort of way about it, doesn't mean you are more right then nature.  Make all the excuses you want.  It happens in nature.  If you are on the religious end of the argument, your god made all of those creatures.

It was bad to be black, it was bad to be gay, now its bad to change your gender.  Man, lots of other people like to make opinions of what is right and wrong as it suits them.  What are you gonna do when being who YOU are is considered bad?  I hope you meet all the bullshit you threw up at all the others, when that time comes.

I still remember when people raged out against science too, but look who won that argument.
