Limelight Gaming LTD Financial report – Period 28/04/16 – 30/04/17

Upon the inception of Limelight, we had a clear mandate to be transparent as to avoid the issues learnt issues of a certain sailor from another communitybut over the past couple of years we had strayed away from that initial mission statement. As of the past couple of months, we have aimed to change that and be as open as we can with the community, which we’ve had good feedback on so far;
Although we are running as a business, and can’t go into full detail for legal and/or privacy reasons, we shall try to be as open about the internal affairs as much as we can. One key factor of this is our financial state and where we are spending money. Below is a breakdown from our last tax year [28/04/16 – 30/04/17].

In this period, Limelight Gaming LTD had a total income of 10,892.86, expenses of 6759.29 + -£674.47 of PayPal fees, meaning a net profit before tax in this period is 4133.60

This meant that the tax bill for this period was £803.25, meaning an after tax profit of  3330.35

As seen above, our most profitable month was August by far, in which we released our first anniversary card event.

As you can see, September of that month really did hit us hard. A very heavy DDOS attack brought servers down for most of the month. We had to fork out a substantial amount of money on anti-ddos protection to mitigate this problem, and thankfully it was successful, minimising the impact of future attempts. Constant security work by Faustie and Burnett, in addition to further protection has helped us avoid this issue since.

Below is a rough breakdown of all expenses.

Total server hosting expenses for this period were 3873.97.
This includes Server hosting, DDOS protection, Forum hosting, domain licence.

For official Companies House report for the above period see https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/compa...download=0

We shall be releasing breakdown of finances for the tax year 01/05/17 - 30/04/18 later this year. This will be more detailed due to the increased record keeping in the previous year.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask but recognise that due to it's nature, any comprimising information, be it directly or indirectly will not be released.

Jono,
Limelight Business Team.

Essentially members of the staff team at that time were given a £10 giftcard on Christmas for their dedication to the server in the months following the ddos. 23 staff * £10 giftcard.

Was being lighthearted, but it's the basis of why the community is built on transparency. Not to delve into it too much here, but the lack of it caused many issues for the then staff team, which is why it's so ingrained in our community.

Very nice to see LimeLight transparency at its best once again.

Btw, @Jono how much of the profits will be used for Temar's RP rocket-ship back to Planet Zørg?
Thank you

At least Zørg is better than Tßjïllöyusdeppieiedepoŵñłickœw.

Also, can't wait for the next report. Hopefully LimeLight has prospered more in 2017-2018 than 2016-2017. On another note, is there a record for 2015-2016? It may be incomplete as it only runs from August to April, but does one exist / could one come out?
Thank you

Unfortunately there are no prior records, as we were incorporated as a company on 28/04/16 and that's when our proper account also opened. Prior to that we initially funded servers out of pocket, and the donations we received then were pretty much all burned up in hosting and putting DDoS mitigation in place - we couldn't even really afford development pay at that time, so there's not much in the way of records.

There will, however, likely be even more extensive records for the next accounting period as we've improved our record-keeping since the first year. We managed everything correctly (legally speaking) but it was still very much a learning year for most of us.

As for prospering in the current accounting period, yes and no. We've certainly put much more money into development and this is really starting to show as a few major updates are coming together and our gamemode is much improved. Optimisation is also proceeding nicely thanks to the efforts of Doc and others. Our development team is generally in a much stronger position.

However, one small worry I do have is keeping up dev payments. I'm very reluctant to allow full devs to work for free as I feel it is unfair, and so in order to maintain high levels of development we also need the income to do so. We've had some really good months this year, but others have been relatively low. We likely do need to explore ways to increase our income, but in such a way that we don't ruin the gamemode or community - you should be able to fully enjoy the game without spending money, but income is necessary in order for us to develop and expand.

What will be likely is a much lower profit margin this period. There is still a bit to go so I'm not too sure, but with the major increase in dev payments we've really kept our margins razer-thin so far this year. That's not a bad thing, mind - I would rather money go towards development than just sit there or go towards tax. That being said, don't worry - we still have enough to host the servers and fund development for quite a long time so long as income remains somewhat consistent.

September 2016....yes, I remember. Possibly the best month where we took a whole new direction towards facing those attacks. Not to mention the knowledge/external support we gained from this.
