(No I'm not racist against Muslims, don't shoot that point.)
It's a shame that it's affected innocent people as well but with how dangerous these situations can be drastic times call for drastic measures.
Also it's only for 90 days, and the judicial branch has ruled out certain parts of the executive order so I really believe this was targeted from a biased point of view.
I'm completely against Syrian refugees entering the US. There's other places they can go to escape the war.
What do you mean "drastic times?" Majority of the crime being committed in the United States isn't by Muslim refugees, by a long shot. Look at Chicago for example. 250 people have been shot so far in January and none of those has been by a Muslim refugee that has at least been reported. The focus should be cleaning up these places with all this crime instead of halting people who aren't shooting each other daily. That executive order is denying people with visas entry, not just refugees too. If anything, US citizens are more of a threat to Muslims currently in the US than they are to us if we just look at the crimes being committed around us. Sure Muslim refugees can commit crimes, but looking at the stats, they barely commit any of the violent crime. Black accounts for 51.1% of murders in the US despite only making up 13.3% of the US population. Whites then commit another 45.9% of murders. With that being said, that's 97% of murders with another 2 percent going to American Indians and another 1 percent going to Asians. Should we ban blacks from the US for all the crime they are committing? No, because it's a remote amount of people and not all of them are bad. A blanket ban on people from X, Y, and Z is ridiculous because many are fleeing persecution and death in their countries.
Those are great statistics, and I'll say again no I'm not against Muslims like you're assuming. For starters, you're comparing issues in the US that I agree with, which I do not even begin to see what you're trying to prove at all..? People from these 7 countries are not all Muslims. But how about we take the issue outside of the US like the topic should be.
Lets look at the seven countries Trump has filed these actions against shall we?
1. Iraq
2. Libya
3. Yemen
4. Syria
5. Somalia
6. Iran
7. Sudan
Now how about we go a bit deeper into each country, shall we?
Each country listed has large amounts of terrorist attacks per year, with hundreds dying from these countries monthly. Many of these places are unstabalized and war-torn. For example lets look at Somalia, as it's one of the countries listed.
https://www.osac.gov/pages/ContentReport...?cid=20183
"The U.S. government recommends U.S. citizens avoid travel to Somalia.
Post Crime Rating: Critical
Crime Threats
The general crime rate is well above the U.S. national average. Pervasive and violent crime is an extension of the general state of insecurity in Somalia. Serious, brutal, and often fatal crimes are very common. Kidnapping and robbery are a particular problem in Mogadishu, other areas of the south, and in Galmuduug and Puntland."
Here are links to some other said countries as well:
https://www.osac.gov/pages/ContentReport...?cid=19056 - Iraq, we all know what's going on there so I'm not going to elaborate.
https://www.osac.gov/Pages/ContentReport...?cid=20235 - Iran, which here literally our country warns against travelling to Iran due to them unjustly holding US citizens without proper cause.
https://www.osac.gov/Pages/ContentReport...?cid=19746 - Sudan, which has strong terrorist pockets and is currently envoked into Civil war.
You can easily learn why places like Libya or Syria are blocked, and if you don't know I highly suggest you look into it!
And here links to a virtual map of terrorist ratings in the world, and if you dive into each of the countries listed, you can see that they score the highest of all the ratings.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/03...terrorism/
These countries do not have the capability to even defend themselves half of the time. Not without foreign aid. They're immigration is on halt because of said issue. The areas are too dangerous and it's rather easy for someone of a terrorist cell or group to get into our country through these means.
I agree with what you're saying, Muslims are not the issue. Islamic terrorist are. What this order does is stop people like that, and other crime committing people from entering our country. Which as I said again is only temporary.
If anything, what you said simply helps what Trump is doing now, those are high crime rates. And we need to fix it. Stopping these kind of people from entering our country is a big step, and once we secure our borders we can deal with the problems internally.
Not all of them are bad, but there's enough of them to put US citizens first over foreigners.
You're saying it's easy for a terrorist to slip into the US using the refugee program and other programs correct? No one has been killed by nationals of those 7 countries since 2001 in any major attacks. This isn't preventing any major terrorist attacks, only preventing people from surviving in their countries. Yes, it's true those countries are war torn. But isn't that why we have refugee programs? For citizens to flee from being bombed and executed? The US hasn't admitted people from those countries that have been a credible threat to national security. If anything, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, etc should be on that list considering they supplied the 9/11 attackers. Instead of having a blanket ban on those countries and suspending all refugees, along with dual citizens, we should keep screening people the way we have been. You can make it a bit tougher if you want, but a ban is no way to do it. We can also look at your map that you provided and see that the US has a higher terrorism score than Iran. So should other countries block US citizens from traveling due to us having more terrorism than Iran?
Iran may have a lower rating but they're still holding people illegally as I said in my original post. And if other countries want to do it sure they can, but as an American I can happily say I'd rather be here than anywhere else so I wouldn't mind NOT going to other countries.
The Refugees should be helped, of course they should. But we're not the only country in the world capable of helping them, they can get it somewhere else. Half of the countries listed are unstable, or even in some form of civil war. And in theory yes a ban could work. If you have bad people coming from a location, then you stop having people come from that location you no longer have the bad people coming.
Based on the morality of the situation you can say it's wrong. Some people say he's banning Muslims, but to me he's keeping people from troubled regions out of our country. He got voted president for this reason, the people want America to come first.
More important just so you know the chosen countries came from information from the Obama legislation. It's not all Trump.
In my opinion I've always found it frustrating that the world seems perfectly fine to use our resources, and our hard work for their own profit. And when we finally do something for our own good its the end of the world. We're not taking in refugees, and as I said before I'm glad we're not.
