At last, a major upgrade to the fire system in CityRP 2! For a long time, the fireman job has been stagnant, with very little made in the way of updates except for cosmetic updates: new vehicles and new models. While these were themselves nice, now they can be fully appreciated as the fireman job receives a functional overhaul!

Fires are much more deadly

No longer can you dance around fires without a care in the world. Stray too close to a fire and you'll soon start to feel the burn. Not only has its damaging range increased (being more damaging the closer you are to its centre), but your character's stamina and oxygen will also drain. Once your oxygen falls too low, your character will find it harder to see straight, and quickly you risk passing out.

The fire works in three zones, or spheres of influence. The outer sphere will not damage you directly, but stand your character's stamina and oxygen will start to drain here. The middle sphere is more dangerous still, as not only do you drain stamina and oxygen at a faster rate, but you're also starting to feel the direct effects of burn damage. The central sphere is inside the fire itself; it damages the same as before, but now you have the additional effects stacked on top of that. Running directly through a fire is extremely dangerous, and even firemen should be cautious of this.

Fire alarms

As fires are now a serious threat to life and limb, better ways of detecting them are needed. For $25000, you can purchase fire alarms from the market. These will remain in your inventory forever, unless you sell, drop, or destroy them, hence the price. These alarms will sound a siren (the sound custom-made by Barkles) if they detect a nearby fire, and will also automatically notify the emergency services. Of course, these alarms can be disarmed by anyone who presses the switch, so if for whatever reason you don't want to alert the authorities to a fire, you can do that.

Toggle fire alarm functionality simply by pressing 'use'.

Fire fighters

What good would such an overhaul be if it didn't also target the job responsible for putting out these fires? Thanks to their specialized protective gear, firemen are immune to the effects of oxygen and stamina drain, but they will still receive some heat damage.

Firemen can also now drag injured players out of harm's way! This will likely be expanded to other emergency roles in the near future, but first we want to see how this is used live for a short while.

Right click on an injured player to pick them up!

Gas masks

Gas masks now have an additional use. While they aren't as good as a firemen's protective gear, their respiratory systems come in handy around fires. You'll still feel the effects of heat and will drain stamina, but you'll be unaffected by the loss of oxygen.

See below an image showing the approximate ranges of the fire's and fire alarm's respective ranges.

Notes on realism

Obviously, a real fire wouldn't use the oxygen in an area quite as fast. However, fire in its previous form was boring, and we figured this to be the best way to improve it. Rather than spamming additional fire entities, which would only contribute to server overhead, each individual fire has been made more dangerous. It's not entirely realistic, but it's more fun and it breathes new life into the fireman role!

I can already hear SirWulf's screams of excitement.

Also - "Firemen can also now drag injured players out of harm's way! This will likely be expanded to other emergency roles in the near future, but first we want to see how this is used live for a short while. Right click on an injured player to pick them up!" This made me almost jump out of my chair.

Awesome update :3

Edit: How far is the area of detection for the fire alarm?
