Greetings Mr. Scott,

Thank you for your application submission. Unfortunately, we have decided to deny your application for employment, as you do not meet one of the general requirements, specifically that you must live within MCSO Jurisdiction at the time of application submission. Your mailing address was listed in your most recent application as “2385 NW 63rd Pl, Ocala, FL”, which is, once again, outside of MCSO Jurisdiction.

As this is the second application from you in recent days with a mailing address which is far outside of MCSO Jurisdiction, we are temporarily barring you from applying to our agency. You may reapply in two weeks time. Your soonest date which an application from you could possibly be considered valid is Tuesday, August 25, 2020. If you attempt to re-apply before that date, the application will not only find a nice new home in the shredder in my office, but you will be barred from applying for an additional two weeks after that time.

Regards,

2020: A Year in Review
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BY ORDER OF THE SHERIFF
Greetings, all:

I'd like to start off by wishing everyone a belated happy new year, on behalf of the whole office.

2020 was quite a year for everyone, and the office is no exception. So, without further ado, here is our "year in review"...

To kick off the year, the Marion County Sheriff's Office Headquarters underwent serious renovations, expanding the facility from a 2-floor "substation", to the center of our operations, a 4-floor building with dedicated office space for each division.

We also, unfortunately, took part in an investigation into a member of another department, resulting in a high-profile arrest.

Promotions this year came to a bit of a standstill due to our exam schedule.

Further, we entered into a binding agreement with Weyland Yutani Inc., a company which has provided "odd-jobs" as Security Personnel to our Deputies on their days off.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, we had to modify our police operations.

Following the modification of our Police Procedures, one of our own, Captain C. Namkin retired from Law Enforcement, however, took on the job of Marion County 9-1-1 Coordinator shortly thereafter.

Undersheriff Stephen Baumann also retired.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office is still running strong, and as the Sheriff, it makes me proud to see that through all of the hardships this family has faced, we are still all vertical.

Thank you for reading, take care of each other, and wear your masks.

Regards,

Why should we hire you over someone else? I have an extensive career serving the United States, having been a marine from 1983 to 1997 and a career in law enforcement spanning 23 years. Due to issues with a federal case in early 2020 I had to abruptly leave Evocity for Boston and moved into WitSec, after the lead suspect was pronounced dead a few months later, I was cleared to return to Idaho.

When I was in MCSO, my team had a prosecution rate of over 90%, I've had an extensive career at a federal investigation, and an MCSO detective.

I've been gone for over a year, getting my life in order and I am ready to return.

Dear Mr Craddock (@Taylor),

Thank you for your application as a returning Detective to the Marion County Sheriff's Office. I note that you left our service in February of last year, following your termination by then-Undersheriff Baumann.

Normally, we wouldn't consider an application where one was previously let go from the agency with regards to misconduct, however we both know that your case is not that simple and these cases are handled on an individual basis. I will have to investigate and verify that the reasons for which you were terminated from MCSO you were exonerated from, or that the termination itself was invalid. Failing this you will have to receive a pardon from the Sheriff.

As you will be aware, normally under our bylaws applications for returning members in good standing will be given especial consideration. However, returning member status does not grant rights to previous ranks, this would be a decision for Sheriff Mondays to make. Likewise, I would have to verify that returning member status applies to yourself, as it would require you to have left the agency in "good standing" (as defined by our bylaws).

Please expect a response within 2-3 working days. I may contact you via email or telephone if I have any further questions.

Regards,

Covert investigation leads to arrest of drug dealer

Today we were able to arrest and charge a suspected drug dealer and grower after days of investigation by our newly formed joint K and S division Covert Crime Reduction Team.

The dealer first came to police attention after coded online posts advertising the sale of drugs. A meet between the CCRT (undercover) and the dealer was arranged, and she was witnessed both dealing drugs and brandishing a firearm during this meeting. Subsequent meetings caught further evidence of drug dealing, whilst surveillance was able to confirm that drugs were being grown at the suspect's property.

This all came to a head on Monday 16th December, when a task force raid was planned on the suspect's house. A forward surveillance team travelled on foot covertly to confirm the presence of the suspect at her property, with no trace being found. An area search was quickly undertaken by the task force while the property was kept under surveillance, with initially no trace being found.

Task force deputies would soon find the suspect on Mainstreet, Evocity, and a felony stop was quickly performed and the suspect arrested. She was transported to the County Jail, interviewed with an attorney present, arraigned and remanded in custody.

This is all thanks to the hard work of our Deputies, who used their creativity and quick-thinking to carry out this action. In particular thanks are due to the S/K Division Covert Crime Reduction Team, who spent days following leads and performing surveillance in support of this investigation (and who had to trudge on foot through snowy conditions to confirm if the suspect was home or not).

Body found at Lakeside House

On a recent shift, while serving an unrelated Attempted Murder warrant from Boise County on a suspect, Deputies from K Division discovered an unidentified body, which was in an advanced state of decay and had suffered multiple human-inflicted injuries.

A man, the subject of the initial warrant, was further arrested on suspicion of murder, and was taken to the County Jail to be interviewed. The man, however, suffered a heart attack at the County Jail, and unfortunately, despite the efforts of Deputies and paramedics, passed away just prior to his interview.

Detectives from S Division attended the scene and performed an examination before the body was removed and handed over to the Marion County Coroner.

This case remains under investigation and anyone with any information is urged to contact Detective Murdock or Detective Sergeant Cook of the MCSO via email or via our non-emergency phone number.

MCSO Kicks off Christmas Anti-Drink Driving Campaign

The Marion County Sheriff's Office has begun its' Christmas Anti-Drink Driving Campaign with a DUI checkpoint held at the City Tunnel in Evocity.

The campaign, a collaboration between K (Patrol) and D (Highways) Divisions focuses on catching drunk drivers during the festive period and educating road users on the risks of drink driving.

The DUI checkpoint, while not mandatory, gave Deputies an opportunity to engage with road users and detect suspicious behaviour. It also directly led to the arrest of two drunk drivers during the period that it was operational, making the roads of Marion County that little bit safer.

This Christmas, the MCSO is reminding everyone that driving while under the influence is not worth the risk. MCSO will prosecute offenders to the highest degree available under the law. We're also reminding people to take care in this snowy weather - roads may be slippery or wet and visibility may be significantly impaired. Deputies will be out and about engaging over the festive period, including on the roads, at DUI checkpoints, and at Christmas markets and fairs.

Stay safe on the roads this Christmas.

We are so back, baby!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BY ORDER OF THE SHERIFF
Greetings, all:

I'd like to start off by wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas, on behalf of the entirety of the Marion County Sheriff's Office. I'll be splitting this post into two parts, one as more of an Out of Character message and one as an In-Character Message

In Character Portion:
As part of our ever-changing roster, I am pleased to announce that Lt. Michael Hays has been promoted to the rank of Captain. Lt. Hays has been with our department for quite a while, and we are very pleased that he has continued to rise through the ranks and has stuck with us all. Lt. Hays began his career in our patrol division, and quickly rose through the ranks from Deputy, to Corporal. Shortly afterwards, he was promoted to Sergeant, and then Lieutenant where he remained until testing for an open Captains position. After the results of the test were certified, he was ranked #1 on the list and we saw it fitting to promote him to Captain immediately. Congratulations to Captain Hays and we wish you the best of luck in your new position.

Out of Character Portion:

We are so back ladies and gentlemen. I know that things seemed to be over a couple years ago, however now that we have the good news from Temar that Limelight is, in fact, coming back, we will resume operations as per usual. We'll be out every day that we possibly can be.
I'd like to thank everyone who stuck around, and urge those who were previously with us to consider re-joining. It won't be the same without everyone, however I'm looking forward to getting back to everything, with everyone. Thank you all for sticking with us.

Warm regards,

PRESS RELEASE

Christmas DUI/Anti-Drug Campaign Comes to an End

[Image: ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett...rbox=false]

A somewhat late Merry Christmas from all at the Marion County Sheriff's Office!

Over Christmas, thanks to the hard work of our Deputies, we've added a few people to Santa's naughty list as part of our Christmas DUI/Anti-Drug Campaign.

This campaign, consisting of checkpoints and more than a few traffic stops carried out our Patrol (K) and Highway (D) divisional deputies assisted by colleagues throughout the office, resulted in many arrests being made on charges including DUI, drug driving, reckless driving and on occasion resulted in arrests for outstanding warrants.

However, the end of our Christmas Campaign does not mean the end of enforcement, and Deputies will continue to enforce DUI/drug driving laws as usual, including the use of DUI checkpoints where necessary.

I'd like to make a personal thanks to all the Deputies who've worked on this campaign, as well as those who sacrificed time with their families over the holiday period to keep Marion County safe and secure. Over the coming months we'll be introducing other road safety initiatives and anti-crime campaigns so keep posted.

Drive safe, Marion County!

Police Impersonator Stopped and Arrested

[Image: ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett...rbox=false]

On 2nd January, Deputies spotted the above vehicle using a deprecated local police department livery and an internal (later discovered to be amber) lightbar being driven near Evocity Lake.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver was found to be wearing a tactical police uniform, with just the police patches removed. The driver was found to not be a law enforcement officer and was unable to offer an excuse as to why they had chosen to drive the vehicle and wear the uniform giving themselves an impression to other road users of being a law enforcement officer.

The driver was arrested on scene for impersonation of a law enforcement officer causing intimidation to others, and was sentenced at a subsequent trial to one year in the county jail. The vehicle was seized and remains impounded.

Deputies and Firefighters attend Warehouse fire

[Image: ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett...rbox=false]

Just before Christmas, firefighters from MCFR and Deputies from MCSO were called to a fire at a warehouse in the industrial area of Evocity.

A cordon around the scene was established while firefighters spent several hours putting out and damping down the three-alarm fire. Unfortunately during the course of the fire the body of a man who worked at the warehouse was recovered and his next of kin were informed in person by Deputies.

Afterwards, a suspected arson investigation was launched jointly by Detectives from MCSO, Fire Investigators from MCFR and a Fire Investigator from the ATF while a safety cordon remained in place throughout the night. This investigation found the cause of the fire to have been a lit cigarette dropped within the warehouse which ignited flammable products leading to the fire. This incident was reported to OSHA.

Investigation after Body found in Evocity

[Image: ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett...rbox=false]

Deputies were called to respond to the body of a man which was seen hanging from a pole in the Backstreet area of Evocity.

The road was closed and after an initial investigation and interview of witnesses the body was removed from the pole by MCSO rope rescue technicians. A crime scene tent was erected in the area to allow Detectives and coroners to continue their investigation.

The incident was ruled a suspicious death and an investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who has any information that might be of use to police is urged to contact Sr. Detective Young (2S60) of the MCSO quoting incident number 020125-044 through our Communications Centre on 311 (/request) or by emailing the Investigation office (sdivision@mcso.macounty.gov.id).

Community Deputies engage with local business owners
[Image: ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett...rbox=false]

Over the Christmas period, community Deputies from our Patrol (K) division have been out and about in the local community engaging with community members and local business owners.

This is to reassure business owners and community members, set local policing priorities and gather intelligence about crime in the local community.

Thanks to intelligence gained from our interactions, we are now able to action this into policing and crime reduction operations that will be seen over the coming weeks and months. Notably we have seen a rise in drug related crime and users in the local area, and our Covert Crime Reduction Team (CCRT), a joint initiative between K (Patrol) and S (Investigations) divisions will be seeking to investigate and dismantle local drug dealing operations.

Deputies will be continuing to engage and anyone who would like to speak to one of our community team is encouraged to reach out and get in touch! Likewise anyone who has any information to share should also get in touch.

Below are attached some photos from our campaign which took place over the holiday period. All of the below incidents resulted in arrest for DUI whether for drink or drugs.
