I find it very interesting we can have a multitude of different controversial discussions but apparently if you give a "controversial " opinion on abortion suddenly white knights come crawling out the wood works and you can be warned for "Spreading sexist views" ie; 'Spreading highly sexist views in public threads."You think that a woman has the right to kill someone else's child?" - "It's up to a woman

what she wants to do with a kid she only did half of the work to create?". Take a breath and think twice or even three times about what you said there.'

opinion bad.

To me it highlights the issue with discussing topics like this, one side who some might identify as being left screams and shouts and tries to censor what an opposing side has to say instead of actually you know, discussing?

Abusing your position to ban someone who doesn't agree with your opinion is the definition of admin abuse.

I do not agree with Faustin's opinion, but by fuck will I defend his right to say it.

I agree totally, I don't agree with Faustin's opinion either but what's the point of having a serious discussion area if you're just going to come in here and ban people for disagreeing with you.

So, Faustin was warned for "double-posting" and posting a "meme" as a starter in a serious discussion. Now, specific members of staff and users are shitposting in here and post memes but nothing happens?

Speaking from personal experience, a lot of the women I have spoken too who have considered an abortion are scared and are not ready to have a child as they end up getting pregnant by accident. Saying things like "they can have the embryo implanted in someone else" or "they can put the child up for adoption" does not cut it. That child is still biologically theirs and the effects of this on the mother tends to last a lifetime. How anyone can justify letting women mentally and physically suffer with depression, substance abuse and self-harm issues, some of which may lead to suicide attempts all because they're been told "abortion is murder and you can't kill your unborn embryo" is beyond me.

Okay certain people are still going at people for having an opinion. Its not really a discussion for this community in my opinion. No one's mind will change. Seems silly to just start an argument for the fun of it.

No, im pretty sure we dont get more female players because gaming in general is a male targeted market - gmod, while it has a healthy female population, is an even smaller part of that market. Stop being a fucking simp. Also your fiancee needs a lesson in equality.

Personally, I do not believe that it is murder and that if it were to be illegal then abortions would still be performed but in a much more dangerous environment. I really don't see how this is a topic that can be discussed in a community that is mainly made up of men, you literally don't even have a uterus.
Why are you trying to argue your view further when you have already made it clear on what your views are?
You are not going to change anyone else's views on this matter so there is literally no point in making threads on this, just accept other's opinions respectfully - as I respect yours - and move on.

I couldnt agree more.

At times i gotta admit i am a little worried about our communities debate culture. This whole thread realy seems to have no purpouse other then to bash eachs others head in a little claiming moral superiority whilst basicly falling into a YES-NO-YES... pattern. I can understand that if you are passionate about a topic it may feel good to engage with it in a public manner. And some form of activism can definatly do wonders. But you gotta be realistic about it: This is a gaming community consisting of about 98 probably 95 percent men.
That is a oddly inefficient demographic if you are hoping to achieve some sort of change. Regardless what your stance may be on this topic you have to realise that the odds of you convincing each other to the point where they would go "oh well under that circumstance i guess im an idiot pardon me" is pretty much non existent.

And that is something that should not suprise any of us. Everyone of us has a right to his own opinion. That is not what debates are about. And somehow we all to often seem to forget that. I experienced similar disappointment in our map change discussion where rather blunt facts suddenly appeared to be opinions and quite subjective preferences were taken for granted facts.

Show a little more respect to each other. Seriously. Sure this is a controversial topic. But trust me we could (though we absolutely should not at this point) have a lot more discussions about matters quite similar in nature and it would amaze most of you (regardless which side you may be on) how twisted and controversial some stance may be on other topics.

In germany for example we had various press crews beeing attacked on so called hygiene demos. A new and really hard to comprehend movement that includes conspiracy theorists, both left and right wing radicals, some liberals and some "concerned citizens" of all sorts. They dont have a common motivation but they all oppose our current quarantine measures.
What none of those people however seem to realise is that the chance of them convincing others that bill gates will shrink the world population or the chance of a left wing radical who claims the measures are orwellian convincing a right wing radical who kinda likes strong government but deems to be on the wrong end of it are extremely narrow. And that attacking the press is not really a reasonable way to achieve anything.

My point is that with the advance of social media platforms, a broad spectrum of news agencys and the comfort of online anonymitiy people often get accustomed to certain type of feedback-loops as they loose the chance or the interest to enage with alternate opinions. And all of a sudden when that loop is interupted they get starstruck.

People seem to forget that there are other opinions out there. And that in quite a few cases those opinions may not match with their own ones though they still dont lack legitimacy.
Though instead of actually enganging with each other by checking our each others arguments and perhaps (just perhaps) slightly adapting our own stance or agruments we all to often choose to take what we then deem to be the high road. We dont engage in a deate but resolve to bitching about each other whilst claiming moral superiority.

As a Admin i have the privilege to witness a lot of  "Abuuuuuse" "Nice CDM" "Nice RDM LMAAAAAOOOO" rants. What people dont seem to realise is that the chance of the other party going "oh shit you are right... that was (insert rule violation here)" are fairly low. Further more those rants are allways met by opposion though in the end when the report is dealt with usually only one party reamins right. That however doesnt keep the people from eganging in pointless bickering under there assumption that is is humanly imposible they may have overlooked sth or did sth wrong themselves. And i grant you that often times it may feel goot to vent a little without aiming for general consensus. But we often forget to check our audience or at times even our subject matter before we engage in discussions thus creating unrealistic expecations or general frustration.

Also on that note (pls stop using lmao as a way to went - your not laugthing your ass of - you are ranting like a little kid)

You are not moraly superior just because you happen to agree withyourself or find a certain comfort in your oh so watertight argument. And just beacuse you are convinced of your opinion you are still far from convincing someone else.
If the world would be binary we would not need serious discussions. We wouldnt even need to vote given the assumption that we could just convince each other on some sort of compromise. It is not that simple and though at times this really seems to suck -  it is much better this way believe me.

In short: If you want to have a serious discussion act like it. Respect eachs others opinion and dont go into a yes/no pattern. You are not going to achieve anything with that other then the sligh feeling of supposed moral superiority - which is a rather stupid gain.

(Just to be clear this whole post is directed not to a particular person or party but to all of ya)

I realise that complaining about how people like to claim moral superiority before writing such a letter is a little ironic and i apologise for that. But i think a little bit of contemplation may be quite suitable.
Perhaps we should host debate nights some day. Trust me i have been in a debate club for some time and i found it genuinely fascinating how well people from various sides can get along with each other if they engage in a civil manner.
Most times in a debate club you dont get to choose your topic or your stance on it. Your position will be assigned at random allowing you to better understand opposed partys whilst forcing you to be creative and reasonable with your arguments. As the whole "yes-no" subjective bullshitery will not last longer then a minute in an actual debate. If i would still have my diner it probably host it there but it may find a new place. This could actually make for some fun rps btw trust me.

You can call me a simp all you like, it isn't going to take away from the fact that the few female players we do attract are generally harassed to the point that they leave. (Check this thread out for a prime example of this - https://limelightgaming.net/forums/thread-26766.html). If we're going to be impartial, I'd very much like to hear more female opinions on this subject, rather than it become an echo chamber of young males spouting opinions that neither side is going to consider or change their mind too.

Do you have evidence of this? All I've seen in my time with Limelight, is young ladies leaving us due to continued harassment and the like. A thread on abortion by a young white male and commented on primarily by young white males regarding something that ultimately is decided by a woman doesn't exactly paint the male demographic here in a good light does it?
