HWAT: New items that works similar to signs that you apply to vehicles.

2 versions:
Basic signs that work on most vehicles (Except for rare cars because almost no one would slap a sign on a DB5) that puts signs on the driver/passenger side doors.
Large signs that only work on vehicles with a lot of space, like vans and pickups.

WHY: This will allow folks to easily advertise their business, without having to find someone to weld signs onto their vehicles. I believe this would also have a lower impact on server performance than welded signs, since if I recall correctly every item welded to a vehicle causes a slight performance decrease.

Though I swear I've seen something very very similar recently that's been approved?
Liked something I've said or done? Why not support me by leaving me a REP?

What if you could just edit the entire skin slot somehow? Like being able to paint and design on it using something similar to the sign editor, but with an underlying skin template as a guide.

To be honest both options sound like it maybe quite diffcult to realise but id favor a customisable skin.
The problem with making signs for vehicles is that most cars are quite curvy, causing half of the sign to hover a few inches over the actual side of the door while the other half clips through. There are a few vehicles where this is not an issue like the ambulance or the boxtruck. But even there the position at which youll have to put the sign in order not to get it to clip really depends on what kinda livery you use.
I am quite lucky that the USFS cars only use a striped design which is realtively easy to apply. But anything that would be a sorta wholebody skin (like covering an entire door) is pretty much impossible to achieve on most cars due to them beeing way to round or edgy.

So depending what kinda livery your apply the ideal position and rotation for your signs may be somethign completetly different, and a full body skin is not quite possible.

A further advantage of a custom skin would be the lighting and shadowing. Signs are immune to light effects. Meaning they will look sorta good in bright daylight but will allways glow in the dark. You can counter that by making your liverys semi-transparent and quite dark but depending on what colors you need to use you will still get quite a bright glow.

So in the end i doubt that we could automate signs for vehicles. Perhaps vehicle skins (eg. for clans or groups) would be the best alternative though i am not sure how long both approaches would take.

Alternatively the suggestion could only be implemented for the boytruck, the vans, the ambulance & rescue engine and the currier truck... all of those dont really cause any fitting issues. But its a pain in the ass to properly skin a crown vic using signs believe me XD

For most vehicles I was meaning a small sign on the door, imitating the magnetic signs you often see slapped on.

The bigger vehicles like the vans have large flat areas, making larger signs easier, but still not as big as the current Sign.

I love the idea but it would make having 25 reps and being able to weld to cars obsolete.

No it wouldn't. I don't only weld signs when I do something, I weld props that give the car more style, scratch effects etc. Vehicle welding sorts more than just signs.

That's my bad sorry, what I meant was it would make welding signs to cars obsolete. Welding props and things to cars would still be fine and NOT obsolete

That's the point of this suggestion though. It means that custom liveries are more friendly to everyone instead of being an utter bitch to make. Right now the only people who have custom liveries made with signs are WY and USFS, it would be great for all government or corporate clans to have company cars and liveries, and it would work for one off RP too.
