ABOUT US

The Idaho Liberal Party is a centre-right political party that competes in elections for the Idaho State Government. It's guiding ideology is that of Classical Liberalism.

The party was formed in the mid-80s after a split from the Libertarian Party. 

We currently have 2 Senators in the Idaho Senate (2nd and 3rd Districts), 3 representatives in the Idaho House of Representatives (1st and 2nd Districts) and an Associate Justice in the Idaho Supreme Court.

OUR POLICIES

HEALTHCARE 

• Better access to healthcare.
  
• Reduction in healthcare costs through greater efficiency and use of technology.
  
• Better healthcare coordination.
  
• Liberals will work in tandem with the private sector to introduce new hospitals in rural areas, and upgrade hospitals that are lacking in infrastructure, at little extra cost to the state. 
  

CLIMATE CHANGE

• Liberals will declare a climate emergency in Idaho.
  
• Liberals will commit to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
  

TAXES

• Liberals will institute a program of tax cuts, reliefs and breaks which will make taxes paid by each individual lower overall.
  
• Liberals will attract businesses to Idaho with tax cuts and reliefs, which in turn will contribute to the economy greatly. 
  

EDUCATION

• The Liberals are committed to making schools safer places. We will liaise with local governments and police forces to help ensure security of our schools, and to provide campus officers to schools/clusters where they are needed.
  
• We will aim to review and increase the quality of education given in our state's schools.
  
• We aim to increase efficiency of the state education system, thus reducing costs, and also increase use of technology which will also reduce costs.
  

HOMELESSNESS & WELFARE

• We aim to take a practical approach to homelessness, equipping homeless and otherwise unemployed persons with the skills that they need to work, through a range of practical programs. This will in the long-run decrease state welfare spending. These courses will make use of efficient technology in order to keep costs low. 
  
• We aim to reduce government handouts overall, ensuring that those who need our help the most get it, but aiming to cut down on government reliance, encouraging as many people as possible to move on from using the welfare state.
  

STATE SPENDING

• Liberals will reduce state spending in all areas currently possible, and will institute programs to do more with less.
  
• Liberals will reduce government handouts, both to persons and to the private sector.
  

ABORTION

• Liberals are officially a pro-choice party.
  

GUN CONTROL

• Liberals seek to strengthen open-carry laws and ensure that this vital right is protected for all to enjoy.
  
• Liberals will continue Idaho's status as a shall-issue concealed carry state.
  

DRUGS

• Liberals will legalise regulated, commercial marijuana production and consumption, which will bring a great income to the state.
  
• Liberals will seek to lower penalties for those caught with personal amounts of other drugs, and seek to eliminate prison sentences for personal amounts of other drugs.
  

LGBT RIGHTS

• Liberals support gay marriage.
  
• Liberals will repeal the Idaho sodomy laws, which officially prohibit sexual activity between members of the same sex, officially ruled unenforceable by the United States Supreme Court.
  
• Liberals will introduce a bill to prevent discrimination on the basis of transgender status/sexual orientation.
  
• Liberals will allow openly-LGBT servicemen and women in the State Guard and State National Guard. 
  
• Liberals will support greater LGBT rights in the state, so long as this does not hinder freedom of speech.
  

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

• Liberals will seek to introduce greater freedom of speech laws, allowing the public to debate and express their political opinions freely as they see fit, regardless of whether or not these are widely agreed on.
