Forest Service Bulletin
Upcomming Developements and Generall Information
The Bulletin
What is this abundance of text and mostly useless information? Well, it basicly started off with me having a cool idea regarding boats and ship-building. With that idea in mind i thought id make a smaller post announcing my partiall inactivity till April 10th whilst teasing you with a sneak peak on the upcomming open air concert dupe. But since the boats and the open air concert are by no means the only project thats currently beeing worked on i thought i may as well use this opportunity to provide you with a more detailed insight on the developemennts within the US Forest Service. So i present you the first Forest Service Bulletin. This is not going to be a monthly report rather then a somewhat random update on our current projects. Since there are a lot of things currently beeing worked on, this one may be a little longer then the usual
General Information
Activity
Unfortunatly our overall activity has been in a slight decline over the past 2-3 weeks. This is in part due to me beeing very occupied with a scientific paper thats due soon. Whilst almost all of our event setups (hangliding, the marathon, our camping grounds etc.) are either publicly available via the public folder, or distributed amongst our team, they still need 2-3 people to operate perfectly. Therefore i can see why the overall activity, that is in part impacted by the number of mini events we host, may have been declining ever so slightly. I am looking forward to April, with increased activity and more (new) events.
Training and Specialisation
Ranger „Apollo“ Sivan has been working on an ambitious „advanced first aid“ training programm for our fellow rangers. With his detailed and advanced knowledge we are looking forward to improve our medical standarts. Id also like to use this opportunity to congratulate our fellow Ranger on becomming a teacher. May you use your skills well !
This training programm is the first step in a very interesting direction. With the increasing number of rangers we are looking forward to implementing specialisations at some point (SAR, Interpretive Rangers, Firefighters etc.) The exact details of this developemennt are still beeing worked on. Whilst a specialisation program provides more depth to our rps, it can also impose certain limits that might become problematic in some points. But im very optimistic about it overall.
Liverys/Signs
I am still working on adding some more liverys/signs to our vehicles. Currently im looking forward to add 2 new, dedicated search and rescue desgings (one for the hummer h2 and one for either the gmc vandura or the savanna). The former one would serve as a equipment rig for Search and Rescue Operations why the later ones would serve as Ambulances. In the long run im also looking forward to sticker/liverys for the Ford Raptor and the Dodge Monaco. Due to the nature of signs (beeing not effected by shadows) as well as the „curves“ of some of those cars (which make it incredibly difficult to desing a sticker that does not clip through the car or stand out by a few feet) this developement is going rather slow. Customised liverys (redesings of already existing ones with unit numbers or specialisations beeing added to them) are quite easy to do though. And will (if requested) be made rather soon.
Clan Model
Unfortunatly the developement of a clan Model has not been going all to well. While I am in contact with someone claiming to be a capable modeller we have at this point (after a month) no credible evidence that anything is beeing worked on. In case this effort is turning out to be a lost cause I will either turn to other members of our community (offering 1.5-2 Million for the developement of said clan models) or modellers from steam workshop. One particular modeller i found is undoubtably very gifted but also a little expensive. If you think you could help us out here we would be very greatfull hearing from you.
Clan Thread Oerhaul
There have been quite a few changes: The map, our liverys and a slowly increasing ammount of new Rangers. Those changes eventually led to the current clan thread beeing a bit outdated. While I keep the rooster up to date at all times, some of the images do not fit with our current theme anymore. I also realised that the current wording of the opening thread lacks some important information about us. Exspecially on a ooc level, some people still dont really now who we are / what we do. As all of our services are free off charge (appart from rp sized fees [5-50$ etc.]) there is very little that should hold you back from calling us for help. Yet most of the callouts we have are beeing called in via the 911 system or via our own patrols, indicating that public awareness is quite low. Therefore I hope to optimise our initial trhead a little to provide a better and more detailed overview of what we do – and why we are of great convenience to the visitors of our lovely forest.
Florida
With the recent release of the US server I am working on putting up some smaller dupes and roleplay setups on the new map. Many of the items from the TN-USFS-Public Folder will be transfered to Florida (warning traingle, rescue basket, boats etc.). I am also looking forward to create at least 1 small-mid sized ranger station. However this turned out to be particulary difficult as there is almost no open and even terrain in the swamp area. Therefore using a prefab house similar to the small ranger station on ducatel lane is almost impossible due to clipping and shaddow issues. So in the end of the day we may be limited to a small visitor center and perhaps one large custom made ranger station. I am also looking forward to turn „Earls Gator Camp“ into a nice little mini event. This however is (due to the low population on Florida as well as the abundance of other current projects) of lower priority.
Current and Upcomming Roleplays !
Hangliding
We are happy to announce that we made the first sucesfull flights with our new hangliders. Whilst the winds were not allways optimal the feedback we obtained was very positive. We aim to improve the hangliding system, by adding more, and optimised tracks, allowing for greater speeds, and more variety.
As a quick reminder: all of this is publicly accessable. Just go into the public folder and select the „US Forest Service“ subfolder. In there you will find the current array of tracks as well as the glider itself, the launch pad and the landing strip. To start a glider just paste it in, run up against the wind and press e whilst looking at the handlebar (Dont forget to paste in the track beforehand
)
Can you hear that? - Open Air Concerts !
If there is one rp besides my beloved Diner i really enjoyed back in the days, it was the concert hall. Therefore i am very happy to announce that i am currently working on a very similiar project. Whilst Rockford was the ideal place for a small suburban concert hall, the wide open landscape of our rural community is the perfect place for a proper open air concert. Whilst it will take some time to work on the scenery, stage setups and likewise aspects the mainstage itself is already done. As i am a little busy right now this project (beeing expected to be another 20h+ build) may not be finished till mid/late April. But its gonna be worth it.
New Technologys: Motorised Boats for All !!!
Meanwhile there is one, brand new idea thats currently in planning. Whilst most people really seem to enjoy the boat we put into the public folder (both on Rockford and True North), there are some smaller inconveniences that I am seeking to optimise with a brand new technology.
With the boat that is currently avaible beeing held afload by a simple array of large barrels, it can only carry 2-3 passengers. And its top speed/maneuverability (beeing steered by the occupants walking slowy against the hull) is not quite optimal either. Therefore i came up with a complicated looking design that aims to solve 2 very crucial problems:
To give a brief explanation: The idea is to have an large invisible platform hovering parallel above the lake, with guard rails on its side. This platform will be used to accommodate a small invisible tug car beeing powered by motors. The design of this top level would ruffly look like a bumper cart ride except that it is invisible.
Meanwhile (on the water level) we will have a boat that is attached to the tug-car above through a weld / a likewise, invisible but stiff connection. Now whoever is operating the boat will essentially just operate the tug car (driving it like a regular, playermade car) wich in turn carrys the boat underneath it. As the boat will be carried by the tug rather then beeing held afload by barrels it will no longer be impacted by the water physics all to much. Therefore the expected cargo and passenger capacity is severly increased. It will also mean that if all goes well the boat can essentially be controled like a car, allowing for much more precise and entertaining yet still realistic boat rides.
Bare in mind that this technology is just an idea as of right now. While i dont expect it to fail miserably, I can say with certanty how well this is going to turn out. Yet the sheer promise of this idea is enough to try it out.
This concludes this first, rather long Bulletin. I hope it answered any questions you may have had regarding our clan
