What is the Nuclear Regulatory Commission doing in Rockford?

ROCKFORD, OR — Yesterday morning, a team of agents from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC's) Office of Investigation were seen arriving and entering the ATF Rockford Field Office. A source close to The Rockfordian has confirmed that the investigative team were dispatched from the NRC's Region IV field office in Arlington, Texas, and assigned to an unspecified ATF-FBI task force.

Whilst officials from the NRC have yet to confirm or deny their involvement in any such task force, speculation has arisen given the recent bomb threat in Rockford. ATF's Public Relations recently revealed the suspected existence of a white nationalist terrorist cell in the city, and the formation of an ATF-FBI task force to investigate any subsequent threat, which seems likely. As the ATF have refused to reveal all the materials recovered at the primary crime scene, it stands to reason that the NRC may have been called in after the discovery of nuclear material.

An additional element to support this theory is the arrival of Dr. Gregory Edgeworth, a senior inspector from the NRC's headquarters in Washington DC. Ultimately, it begs to question: why is a specialised NRC investigative team, lead by a high-ranking inspector from DC, out in an ATF Rockford field office in the midst of an ATF-FBI investigation into a bomb threat?
