Catalan parliament declares independence from Spain

Vote was 70-10.
The Catalan regional parliament has voted to declare independence from Spain, just as the Spanish government appears set to impose direct rule.
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy earlier told senators direct rule was needed to return "law, democracy and stability" to Catalonia.
The crisis began when Catalans backed independence in a disputed vote earlier this month.

Except the U.K isn't recognising them as independent due to the circumstances of the vote.

Wasn’t this compared to like Los Angeles (or another state) claiming independence from the USA? Is this a good comparison or if it isn’t can it be explained why they want independence?

I mean the shit they have had from Spain is dam ridiculous I mean look at the Spanish civil war. Looking at how people where taken from villages and were shot dead. In fact one of my relatives went to Paris for exile because of what is happening. The government has requested to claim independence by speech but they Spanish are saying ARTICLE 155 and even if they didn't claim independence ARTICLE 155 so they just did it anyway.

If you wish you can look at this image (Views Discretion is advised): https://www.activistpost.com/wp-content/...il-war.png

I mean Rajoy is using propaganda down in the southern Spain by using the riots in Greece a while back as what the Catalans are currently doing making people is Spain believe that is what is happening. Due to all of this they really have no chance and from what I have heard the Catalans are going on strike from 30/10/2017 till 7/11/2017 as well. I mean if anyone has any reason for how he is reacting in such a hostile manner if you have a look at what Rajoy said towards the Catalan leader Puigdemont which was a death threat towards him if he continued to push for independence was not needed and then what he ordered the Civil Guard to do before 1/10/2017 granted the vote was illegal but why do you have to hospitalize people? Honestly how the Spanish government is reacting is appalling.

Then the EU is like fk you and all that go talk to them and then the UK is best friends with Rajoy and well Trump isn't really getting involved due to how he loves to annoy NK but would be on Rajoy's side anyway so no point in asking him what side he would be on anyway.

I'm currently waiting for Puigdemont to be shot like he was told he was going to end up like but at the end of the day Spain caused them to claim it as they cornered them by saying they would impose article 155 anyway.

Long live Catalunya.

Unlike any state in the U.S. the Catalans have their own variation of the Spanish Language, their own culture and the necessary support for independence.

Unlike any state in the U.S. the Catalans have their own variation of the Spanish Language, their own culture and the necessary support for independence.

As @"Faustin" said here,

Catalan has its own government system.

Civil services

Economics (This is what the Spanish want to keep and why they are scared of them leaving hence the over reaction from Rajoy)

Culture which is different from the Spanish.

Flags, national anthem, language, literature.

This is all that I can think of from the top of my head, and hell I know someone is going to be like
SCOTLAND HAS THAT... hence they applied from Independence,
WALES, well that's another story that could get heated just as quickly,
AMERICA, has some of those things.

I know, I know, but that isn't the point it is the fact they are different in may different ways and sticking to Spain is not how they want to be they want to be by themselves and not be involved in:

"Fascist Spain" (This is controversial depending from where you stand)

I apologise to all Scottish people that might take offense but they hardly have their own variation of the English language, merely a dialect. They don't exactly have their own culture either. Also unlike Catalonia they are nowhere near as autonomous.
