Name of Player: Mr Doc

SteamID: STEAM_0:1:61661230

Server:

Time: 7:50

Summary: I needed a ride, therefore I tried to get him out of his car using fearRP. I had a knife, yet he drove off anyway. He then returned shortly after. Shadowplay mic was set up as my virtual cable, so you can't hear me.

A knife poses no threat to someone who is inside a locked car with a closed roof. I didn't see any /mes about breaking the car's window or it being rolled down either. And even if there were, you were not even standing at the driver's side of the car.

Your reason of "wanting a ride" is also dodgy. You can't steal cars randomly just for a ride, especially if the owner is still inside. Can you elaborate on your reason to try steal the car?

I only came over in time to catch a bit of the situation, but the parts that I caught were you talking over mic along with Mr.Doc - you were following him around, slashing and hitting him with your knife - when he asked something along the lines of "and now you're trying to RDM me?" to which you replied "pretty much yeah", and kept trying to attack him. When the police approached with guns drawn,  you came at them with the knife and you were shot. When they revived you, you felt it appropriate to have an exchange with Doc, where he, at some points, was calling you a squeaker over voice (I addressed the medic for trying to heal Doc while you were attacking him, which goes against scene safety for a first responder; and Mr. Doc for his violation of Rule 1.4),

I was taking money from the people around the area, and was looking for a car ride to get my friend and my own vehicle as he was at outerBP, where he was in a hostage situation previously

A knife does pose a danger if he's in striking range, and the knife does damage to the person inside, so I think fearRP is still on if it can do damage. Also considering he has an expensive car, surely he'd do as told when there is a knife so close to his vehicle.

Stealing a car is high risk, you wouldn't do it just because you don't want to spend 5 minutes walking to wherever you need to go.

Technically he's on the other side of the car so you aren't even within striking distance (and that's considering the knife can magically pierce through the car which I consider a bug rather than a feature).

And nobody will ever get out of their car when there's a guy with a knife threatening them outside, no matter how expensive the car is.

Also do you mind commenting on what Toxic wrote?

Are those comments breaking the rules? I threatened something that never happened. As much as I'd love to smack him with a prop, it's against the rules, therefore I didn't.

The weapon was still within striking distance. I could cause damage to the driver by hitting the car. Therefore I was in striking distance. You cant really say "This doesnt count because you weren't close enough" although I could still do damage, therefore both the rules below are invalid.

These rules say
2.1 You must follow FearRP – Your character must act afraid of life-threatening situations or of any weapons pointed at you.
2.1d FearRP applies to melee weapons, so long as they are within striking distance.

FearRP rules are based heavily on IC and acting afraid in situations where you would realistically be afraid for your life, so:

2.1 You must follow FearRP – Your character must act afraid of life-threatening situations or of any weapons pointed at you.
Do you know why you don't run away from gun/knife point when standing on the street? Because you will most likely get stabbed or shot and die if you try to run. Do you know why you don't drive away from a gun pointed at your car at point blanc range? Same reason, you will get shot down. Your character standing next to an enclosed, locked car, with the driver's seat on the other side, had no In-Character way of doing a life-threatening attack on the person inside the car, therefore the "safest" thing for them to do no longer becomes listening to your orders, it becomes driving the fuck away as fast as they can.

2.1d FearRP applies to melee weapons, so long as they are within striking distance.
Strike distance = strike distance to the person, as far as I'm concerned (makes sense in-character/IRL and in all other ways).

But I could have killed him, therefore fearRP is on.

If we are being technical, you couldn't have because you wouldn't have enough time to as shown in the video (Not my point though since injury threat also counts for FearRP). You could have damaged him due to a bad damage system with vehicles in-game. In-a-makes-sense-world you couldn't have done even that. Furthermore:

I could have killed that guy across half the map with my sniper rifle but FearRP isn't on even if he knows I'm looking at him with my sniper rifle.

I could have killed the SS agent driver in a limo because they still take a little bit of damage but the car is considered bulletproof so FearRP isn't on.

These, and things such as "once you are fired upon, FearRP is off" are things that are not explicitly stated in the rules but arise regardless. If you start to think or rules like this too literally and forget common sense, a lot of scenarios come up where a situation that makes perfect sense is no longer allowed and something that clearly doesn't make any sense IRL is suddenly supported by the rules (like in this case).

So I can break fearRP as long as I do "/me ducks below the window" etc, because I can't be hit when driving off as easily? etc.

"As easily" is not "cannot be hit" therefore no.

I was driving round and you suddenly decided you were going to attempt to steal my car with a knife. Like really? First of all you weren't even on my side of the car and second of all you hit the front of my car which in all honesty wouldn't really damage me. I then drove back to the area to see what was going on and you instantly begin to slash me with your knife. I then say to you "You're now RDMing me" in which you replied "Yep" So from my point of view you've broken the rule not me.

Denied.

Due to the aforementioned reasons, Mr.Doc was not found in violation of FearRP (For your information, this judgement was approved by a Supervising Administrator).

Additionally, the poster of this report, Coupcake, will receive a vehicle blacklist for attempting to steal a car for a reason considered to be invalid (Stealing a car at knifepoint with multiple witnesses is way too much risk for the small inconvenience of walking <5 mins - FailRP)
