While mechanics aren't allowed to do things like muggings, robbing, and other crime unrelated to their Mechanic job, the "Criminal" in their job title could indicate that they were a mechanic who deals in illegal things like distribution of illegal chop-shop parts or a mechanic which would assist in repairing cars that were stolen by criminals - which would be fine. There is no context for me here to know for sure what he was doing with his job.

So unless you have evidence of him actually doing something like mugging someone, it's not really punishable by itself to have that job title as a mechanic.
