FBI director James Comey has said that the agency wants a back door into encrypted devices, despite the fact that security and tech experts have repeatedly warned that it is an extremely bad idea. If the FBI implements a back door that can be used by government officials, it can be exploited by anyone including hackers, terrorists (the guys they claim to want to stop), and foreign governments. You can't make encryption that only the "good guys" can access, but nobody else can, it just doesn't work that way. You can either make users secure from everyone, or you can make them vulnerable to anyone. And even if you did enforce encryption in all American devices, anyone actually worth stopping can just use a device from a non-American manufacturer that isn't subject to US laws. What are you gonna do then FBI? Ban math?

I think cybersecurity expert Bruce Schneier put it best.

Bruce Schneier Wrote:The FBI paints this as a trade-off between security and privacy. It's not. It's a trade-off between more security and less security.

I highly recommend people read his blog post on the value of encryption.

Sacrificing freedom for security, but in this case it's sacrificing freedom for insecurity. Worth it! Lets do it!

Considering Comey is too daft to indict HRC I'm not surprised he's dumb enough to believe this will work exactly as planned.
