Basically the only vehicle not guilty of this is the Prius, which honestly suffers from the opposite problem.

True, though the Prius is supposed to be quiet. Seems like the Charger and Suburban are the worse offenders for noise. You can't have a conversation while in one. Especially idle as they constantly rev up.

When the Prius is running off battery, it is a bit quieter than ingame, but when the engine kicks in it's no quieter than an average econobox. Theres also the problem of increased car vs pedestrian accidents caused by the extreme stealthiness of the Prius, which could be fixed by a bit more engine noise, or some other kind of noise.

(Also, in the U.S. there is a law requiring hybrids/electric cars to emit a warning noise at low speeds, it should go into effect sometime this month)

on one hand the engine sounds are important for the over all atmosphere as well as the recognition of a nearby car.
However there are a little loud on some vehicles (exspecially the taurus or some of the suvs)
It would need to be done individualy but could be quite nice
