Trying Rockford almost tanked the entire player base, i'm not sure we're ready to try something new

RE: Bad FPS Change map ? - Zeyon - Jan 7, 2017

Dunno what was wrong with rockford tbh. It's a superior map to evocity in every way imo.

Already tried rockford , There were no people playing in it, It was nearly died. Lets try v5p It will be so good !

Rockford actually DID work, but due to an error on the map maker's part it turned the once fruitful US Server into a wasteland. And don't get me started on the failure of the EU Server. One full day of activity and then it dropped to 1 or 2.

paralake is also quite nice?At least it got a actual highway

RE: Bad FPS Change map ? - Doctor Internet - Jan 7, 2017

As I see this, for each map being suggested there are positives and downsides.

EvoCity v2d
The old favourite
- Small map size, so is often cramped at higher populations.
- Roadways are not linked (start at the city, end at the lake)
- Unselectable Lifts (remember always getting stuck on the top floor?)
-Old.
+Good framerates on higher populations.
+Small map size, forcing people together, which can lead to RP.

EvoCity v33x series (v33x, v4p1)
The current map
- Poor FPS at medim framerates, for many systems.
+ Linked roads.
+ Selectable lifts.
+/- It's the current map.

EvoCity 2 Series (v2p)
Huge farms
-Huge map, which can make it feel empty.
-Some vehicles struggle up the hill.
+Huge map, giving you a lot of space to do your RPs.
+Transit system.
+Good FPS, even on higher populations.
+Varied RP enviroments.

Rockford
"oh dear, i messed the workshop up again"
+Large map, but still feels alive on low population.
+Roads link, with a surrounding highway.
+Out-of-the-way areas for alternative RPs.
+Reasonable FPS, even at higher populations.
+Good Fire Station for SirWulf.
-The maker messed up the workshop before.
-EU Rockford died (I didn't even know there was an EU Rockford.

Chaos City
I didn't know the park had an inbuilt desert.
-Large map, that can feel empty.
-Disconnection between the different biomes ruins my immersion.
+Doesn't seem to have the performance problems of its base. (But I haven't played it with 40 people.)
+Expansive road network.

*Whilst personally, I'd love V2p back, realistically, we don't have the population to support it.
*Rockford felt alive, even with a low, UK day US night population (I used to play on US), so I'd support having Rockford back.
*The v33x series is a nice series of maps, but have terrible optimisation issues. Those need sorting out, because 50pop can make the game unplayable for many people (including me Sad), and v4p1 also causes issues for others (With both @Burnett, the Help and Support Forums being proof of this.)
*I'd also support v2d, because personally, I liked that map. That being said, I'd prefer Rockford or 2p over 2d.
*Chaos is a nice map, but the issue with the biomes annoys me (more than it should.)

I vote v2p, it's a great map

V2p is difficult to attract a fair few players, since if you don't have the hl2 ep1/2 content literally half of the map is errors/missing textures.

I love the thought of the two maps listed above from @Doctor Internet. Reasons listed below.

I love the thought of returning Rockford as to it's glory. There was even a full population back in the American days before the Rockford Missing File of 16. @Soviethooves and even @Toxic or @BlackDog would probably definantly agree that Rockford was an amazing map and we had a massive expansion of the American and even Auzzie (Love you, @Cameron) Expansion towards the main current Europe distribution we currently carry within the community. A lot of you will say Ping is terrible on the US server which was TRUE and I will agree however for the gameplay it actually didn't affect it. I live in the UK with terrible computer as viewed in a thread I made on Friday about this 9 year old piece of shit. I enjoyed Rockford and many others did. The only reason we had a mass decrease in population was due to the Rockford Missing File Event of 16 when the rockford owner said he replaces the map with the exsisting workshop collection rather than creating a new workshop item for the new update of the map. Because of this, players were unable to join with missing map files for the previous version of Rockford because if you launched Garry's Mod, the Steam Workshop would update it for you making it replaced and unable to join the US server. Because of the mass delay of fixing this map the US community slowly began to fade and there became less members on the US server which many on the US server would agree with me. Rockford is an excellent map to move to.

As for Chaos City, as much as I enjoy the feel of Biomes and different atmos features within each one, I do believe the massive collection of requirements to play correctly put me off slightly however part from that I do believe it would make a better map if users don't wish to play on Rockford. The biomes do put me off slightly however I do personally like them as it could invite different styles of roleplay in different areas.

Same here, sometimes even when there's a bunch of people online. But when people start mingebuilding inside the Nexus (or all around Main St.), I am actually quite afraid to enter the city with any type of vehicle.

It's basically waiting for the day I will get some lag spike, run 9 people over and end with myself wrapped around a tree or through the windshield of my vehicle. So, my apologies in advance for whoever will fall victim to this.

RE: Bad FPS Change map ? - Vadar - May 5, 2017

Rather than looking at other maps publicly available how about a custom built map for Limelight that has the features that are wanted/needed and other things removed that are not used ?

RE: Bad FPS Change map ? - Rizion - May 5, 2017

Do we have somebody who can do this? I can't.

Thing is, source was never made to handle the quality of content Garry's mod has nor the way roleplay maps work.

Basically, garry's mod will never run any map better than 40-60 fps and that is because the engine was expected to handle smaller areas with low detail props, instead what most roleplay maps have is huge open maps + the quality of most vehicles, guns, playermodels, props on the workshop quickly reaches the limit of what source can handle at once and then we see huge drops from +60 fps to the point of single digits. So no matter the map, people will lag out, how much depends on your computer and future optimization updates from both limelight and facepunch.
