Suggestion: Presidential Campaign System
Reason:
1. Improve the quality of Government RP
2. Allow the player’s to have a voice
3. Expand RP throughout the entire server
Details:
The Presidential role is one that is currently flawed. The hour requirement, while minimal, is not the solution to finding the right President. Before I go on any further, let me post a quick Q&A section.
Q1. Is it difficult to become the President?
No. It is relatively easy to become the President as it only requires you to join from the F1 Menu if the position is not already taken.
Q2. Won’t adding an election system become a popularity contest?
What do you think? Of course. If you are one of those people who think this is wrong, I ask for you to please state a detailed reason why. I believe this system allows for anyone to have a fair shot at becoming President, though you must actually put in the effort to get the support to win. Instead of spamming the F1 button when the job is available, you will instead be gaining the support of voters by any means possible, which include but isn’t limited to:
1) Campaigning
2) Threatening
3) Making deals
4) Bribery
Campaigning
This can include going out and meeting potential voters. Making a speech, talking about your plans when you become President. You can hold a fundraiser, gain support from the previous or current President.
Threatening
Are you resorting to violence? Will you make threats to groups to ensure that they vote you in?
Making Deals
You slimeball. Are you going to negotiate your way into office? Whether it be permitting the
Corleone’s to own a specific territory or promising Citizens the legalization of Marijuana.
Bribery
Pull out the paycheck and write your way into office. Being rich can be a powerful thing.
Q3. How would the system work?
Simple, I’ll explain it in detail in this long paragraph that will detail the process. Let’s start from the point where the server is restarted with this system in place. Upon opening the F1 Menu and seeing the Presidential role, the button would not say [Join] but rather [Run for Office] or similar. When the first person presses that button, the cycle begins. The campaign process will begin and for the next 15 minutes the campaign will be open and other people can go into the F1 Menu and run for the position. For obvious reasons, there must be a cap on this number of people who can run for office at once. To be reasonable, this number should be around 3. These three individuals will be doing whatever they have to do in order to gain support. A new entity will be created and this will be the ‘Voting Machine’ and it can be placed by the Nexus Desk Secretaries or they can simply be located within the Nexus lobby. During this 15 minute campaign process (timer), people would be able to go and use the entity to vote. The individual with the highest number of votes after the time will of course be placed as the President. Once they are elected, they can then select their VP. This can either be the second most popular candidate or maybe even someone the President is able to select personally, which would be more realistic. But to stay on track regarding the system; upon being elected into office a new timer will initiate which will last 30/60 minutes (Up for discussion) and after this the President will have the ability to either A) Run for another term or B) Close the voting off. The first being the democratic choice and the second being an obvious indication that they would be moving away from Democracy. Running for another term would be automatic and after the 30 minutes you’ll just be placed on the candidate list once again and the process would repeat. Closing the voting would simply be done by a command that would make an announcement that voting has been closed and this would permit you to stay in office with no election, however this would be gone if you were to change jobs or be killed. What is up for discussion is the ability to cut off your ability to vote, as we currently have rules regarding DictatorRP being accessible only to those with staff permission. This being said, we can simply make a command that would notify staff and allow them to approve/deny your request to start a Dictatorship by sending a notification similar to how the President sees a warrant. This really depends on if we want to allow for more RP freedom or simply keep it on the PassiveRP side. Without a built in way to cut off voting, there would still be alternatives to staying in office (Bribery, using force to block off the voting machines, etcetera)
Q4. What good does this do?
Improves the quality of GovernmentRP. You'll likely find yourself having to role-play in order to grasp the support of voters. This would add a whole new side to the game-mode and is the kind of update that would make CityRP 2.0 really stand out and much more interesting. You will see the President RP'ing more rather than sitting in his office once he is elected, because you won't likely be reelected if you aren't being productive. Staying on the good side of the Citizens of EvoCity would, after all, be a huge priority. This may mean you are being more interactive with broadcasts, staying in touch with Citizens through TV Broadcasts, and even making public appearances for speeches/fundraisers.
TL;DR
President would no longer be simply joining from F1, but rather from an election system that would create a system that would be dependent on how you gain support from voters. If you prove that you can RP you'll likely get the job. If you can barely form a sentence or fail to run a good campaign, it may be difficult to win over many voters.
