Greetings,
As i'm sure most of you are aware, the current state of the Evocity Stock Exchange is very disappointing. When it was initially released in January, with all the hype surrounding it, there was constant updates and the market was volatile. Currently the market is massively underutilized by the majority of the player-base. PaulB and I own around 45% of the market, which I quite frankly think is ridiculous as we're two players out of hundreds in the community. This highlights one of the key problems that the community, whom were at least previously engaged with the stock exchange, are no longer interested.
So I'm making this suggestion in a bid to reinvigorate the market. Let's make the Stock Exchange great again!
Suggestion 1:
Create a committee for the 'stock news & events'.
This committee should be formed of both the player-base and the staff team. The player-base involved would be those with a keen interest/has shown keen interest in the stock exchange, the leader of clans whom are listed on the exchange, the admins running the exchange and the development team which maintain it. So what would be the purpose?
I propose that these members can propose 'events' and 'news', in which would be randomly picked for the most part. This would mean that the markets would actively have volatility which makes it interesting, riskier, but also with potential for greater profit. The benefits of having multiple people submit news headlines is that assuming everyone stays engaged, it should be fairly easy for new events to happen constantly. Furthermore one could require a monthly/bi weekly log of the clan's in game activities from the clan owner. This could benefit the price of the clan, which would make analyzing clan activity on both the forums and in game profitable. Currently the system is essentially random, unless an admin decides to make an 'event'. In the last month and a half, there's been roughly 3 events, as opposed to 3 events a day when it was first launched.
So this weekly log would allow analysts and those thoughtful investors to make investments in a realistic manor. This would also have a positive side effect of creating more clan activity, both in game and on the forums.
TLR Committee of player-base to submit stock events which could effect price of exchange. Clan leaders would be required to submit an activity sheet every two weeks / month. (They could also opt out, which would mean that their clan specific events would be generated by an admin instead.)
Suggestion 2.
Introducing the ability to short stocks.
Essentially, shorting a stock is the opposite of buying one, or going 'long'. This means that the player would short a stock, hoping that the price would go down. (Obviously more technical, but this is the principle of what it is.)
This would allow an increase in activity on the market, as assuming news is generated, one could keep that in mind and still make a profit, rather than simply waiting for a stock to fall. This would also even out profit making as of course people will be wrong sometimes. (Introducing the shorting of stocks also paves the way for actual techniques to be used with the market, such as hedging.)
Suggestion 3.
Including trade fee in profit and loss column.
Much like every online trading platform I utilize in real life, the profit and loss should be calculated and subtracted from the profit column. This would essentially give a more accurate profit indication, and make it substantially easier to know when to buy and sell. (at a glance.) This could easily be justified by renaming the trade fees to 'spread', which essentially means when you buy a stock, it will also be slightly overvalued as the 'spread' is the money the market platform makes from each trade.
(If you have any more suggestions, feel free to post it in a similar format below, and we could make it into one concise thread to avoid it getting buried, like most previous suggestions have been.)
