Suggestion for Ingame
In detail, explain your suggestion:
My idea is something which I have advocated for awhile, but I figure its' worth a shot here.
So here's the deal, instead of having a chef/cook job, the server should implement a system which will allow players to farm their own food. This not only eliminates the chef monopoly on the food market, but it also creates a new economy in which the players set the prices for the food they grow.
"But wait, Joey! What about seeds?" you may be asking, and I thought of this in a much, much more interesting suggestion. You see, outside near the lakes or in any area with lots of grass/trees, you'll find little dimples on the ground which contain up to five to ten seeds. These seeds are harvested with the use key, and take three seconds to harvest each seed. After harvesting these seeds, you need to purchase a Shovel from the marketplace in a "Farmer" tab and you have to dig a "hole"(upside down pot in the ground), and from this you plant your seeds into the holes.
While waiting for them to grow up into full plants, you need to purchase a Watering Can from the "Farmer" tab and go to the lake and harvest water from it. With this, you go back and forth and pour water onto your crops in order to have them grow into full mature plants. When it comes to harvest time, you'll be able to harvest all the plants you worked to grow, and gain the fruits, vegetables, or drugs of your labor.
In speaking of the drugs, I think I forgot to mention that this would also take over pot, cocaine, and whatever drug is on the server as you would be required to find the seeds in order to plant them. This would not only mean that drugs wouldn't be a monopoly controlled by the Doctors and BMDs, but it also means that we could theoretically increase the prices of which the marijuana gives at the weed dealer, this way players will still be able to make money in the lower ranks.
Now then, back to the main discussion. So you have this food which can be now sold to other players, eaten, or... Made into moonshine?
Wait... what..?
So in the thread title, I mentioned Moonshine. This is an alcoholic beverage made with a variety of items that contain sugar and yeast, but I'm sure you already all know that, you are here though for the much, much more entertaining thing. What will this do ingame? In the server, moonshine is made by taking five to ten fruit, vegetables, or drugs and putting them into a Moonshine distillery which is purchased in the Contraband menu. Each fruit, vegetable, or drug contains a variety of different effects, but for the most part, these effects will effect the following:
All these items could be achieved by eating tons of fruit, but the moonshine takes these effects and combines them into one drink. The Moonshine Distillery makes at least ten drinks, which can be picked up and then sold by the manufacturer. The effects of fruit, vegetables, and drugs have on the end user will have to be figured out by the players, as you will not be told about them. This means that if a user finds out a very good recipe, they are the only one which has it until someone else manufactures the same or similar recipe.
An example of how the combination system works is akin to this...
Let's say watermelons increase your running speed and stamina, but decrease your handling skills and reduce your damage from bullets. You use five of these in your recipe, and also use five carrots which only effect your firing accuracy by 3%.
In this system, your final Moonshine product will have the following effects:
+ 5% Firing Accuracy
+ 5% Running Speed
+ 10 Stamina Points
- 15% Firearm Handling
This brew all though good for some things, is terrible for other things. At the same time, from this brew you could deduct a few things.
Each watermelon provides the following:
+ 1% Running Speed
+ 2 Stamina Points
- 3% Firearm Handling
Each carrot provides the following:
+ 1% Firearm Accuracy
With this knowledge, the player will now be able to go about manufacturing better brews, and can continue fine-tuning his or her recipe until it is ready for sale. The player could also just consume these in exact order when he or she goes on a raid, or when they are prepping for a race. Because watermelon makes your run faster ya know?
As every fruit, vegetable, and drug has a different effect, you can make numerous different types of moonshines which would in some essence become a commercial drug on the server. Another thing you could do is put old moonshines in to the distillery in order to mix it with a new brew, in essence making a double distilled beverage.
Wait though, I have never described how you operate the Distillery! After you put your ingredients into the distillery, you need to go out to the lake, and harvest water with a Waterdrum which can be purchased from the Contraband menu of the marketplace. These waterdrums will be taken to the distillery, and put in the same way you put in the ingredients, and from this you'll get an indication of how much water is currently in the distillery. During cooking, you'll have to refill this periodically.
Once you have the distillery filled with ingredients and water, you now can go up to it, and click your use key on it, from which a menu will pop up which will allow you to name the brew when it comes out, and will ask you if you are fine with the ingredients being used. If you want, you can remove or replace certain ingredients during this period of time. After you are prepared, you turn on the fire, and you begin to cook moonshine!
Moonshine takes roughly fifteen to thirty minutes to distill depending on the types of ingredients you are using, and as mentioned previously, you will need to put more water into the distillery, and periodically have to add more wood to the fire which is cooking everything. Wood could also be something that can birth a lumber industry, but I'll post about that in another thread!
When the moonshine is finally made, it'll come out with the name you assigned to it at the start, and it'll have a date assigned to it. Why the date? Because if you let the Moonshine sit in your bank for a few days or weeks, it'll get increased abilities under the idea of "aging" the booze. Another thing I considered was having the possibility to purchase wooden barrels of different types of wood which could add a flavoring which increases certain abilities in certain ways while aging.
Either way though, this is the idea for redoing the current drugs system and adding farming/moonshine distilleries.
Why should this be implemented?:
Player Economies. As everything is mostly made through farming, finding resources, and brewing things slowly and very labor intensive, players will set prices on their brews which will vary from player to player. As brews are all different as well, each player will have a different recipe which they'll sell. Another aspect of this system is that by having farming controlled through players, the developers can create influences on the system by say... Making it so theirs a famine in berries so berry seeds are more rare, and therefore people can charge more for them and the brews that use them.
It's a system which is totally controlled by player speculation and does not require the interference of coded jobs to control markets. It will be better for the server.
