We could probably demote quite a lot of staff members without the community being affected much at all. That is because the inactive staff members are simply not administrating the servers. Demoting inactive staff members would rather favor the server by leaving room for new motivated and active staff members.

Admins do a LOT more than just moderate the servers. They’re also the “council” if you will when helping and deciding LL’s concerns and improvements. If you want to demote inactive staff, demote the ones not on the forums OR the server that haven’t been active inna while (The Rock is a good example). A smooth, slow transition allows the new HR team to assess and gain info of their subordinates to make a rational decision on what to do. Once that is done, then we can see staff demotion based on more than just “HE’S NOT ON SERVER REEEE”

I believe that those in the "council" should be those who have the best insight into the server. This would be those who are actually playing on the server. Why should those who aren't playing on the server decide its path? Demoting those not playing on the server would leave room for more suitable people in both the "council", forums and the server.

Everyone but Welker (and maybe bambo - he totally didn't threaten this out of me) should be demoted. Then abolish the council and have absolute rule. Change succession laws to primogeniture and all is good.
I mean I'm of the opinion that admins need to stop having the final say on everything. So much is down to "internal voting" and "internal politics" yet we don't actually get to choose who becomes admin, and we certainly then don't get to find out what they're voting for or indeed what their plans for the direction of the community are.

For a community founded on transparency we're very fucking not-transparent. Time for some more democracy and less council up in this bitch.

I'm only down for the community voting for staff members if we create a two party system. All current staff then have to pledge to each said party and are given a particular group of people here that they delegate over. I'll try and figure out a way to include gerrymandering and we you ourselves a good system.

This isn't politics.

In any company in existence when would voting for employees or management have anything to do with anyone from the public or even customers for that matter?

Have you ever seen any online community in any game not have an internal system to decide staff members?

Sort of half agree with this. For sure there needs to be more transparency on how the internal voting works and the reasoning behind it, however, like Dicky's explained above, I think the final say on any promotions / demotions of staff members should be resting in the hands of HR.

I agree on discussions and choices being given to us, but voting or having a say in who gets staff? No. Companies don’t allow you to vote for your supervisor. I’d prefer allowing staff to vote who they want as staff and if it’s BS, then it is the community’s job to expose it.

It could be worse, imagine being like Jagex or Wargaming. Every employee has moderator powers, and there's nothing the community can do about them. At least with Limelight, there are things that can be done.

How can you compare Limelight with a huge company like Wargaming? lmao

Easily. They're companies, with employees. If we hired some random bloke to work on advertising LL, would you be happy if he got full admin rights?

There is no problem with Jagex giving their employees moderator powers. The moderators are not roaming the world to ban misbehaving players, that is handled using their systems. Besides, the odds of a moderator in the game abusing their powers is very low, as you have a lot more at risk as opposed to being a staff member on a gameserver. By abusing powers, you would literally risk your entire career.

Although, I would still make staff be the ones to choose new staff members, reason being that they in many cases have some deeper insight into moderating etc.
I mean, why do the community vote on teachers?

One is meant to represent the better part of the community and educate and lead others.

The other one does that AND can remove a player from the server.

Except that is exactly what has happened at Jagex: https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/mod-...ldschool=1

And not even just once. This one was bad enough that police had to be brought in: https://www.pcgamer.com/jagex-moderator-...pe-player/
