I think paying to 'expedite' your ban would = admission of guilt // think that's the simplest way to go about that

You're ignoring several things in this, but I appreciate your input.

  1. Paying to expedite your ban does not remove the punishment/history nor does it remove any associated blacklists that come with it. If you're prop-killing you will still have to serve a PTE blacklist. If you broke NLR, you will still have an NLR blacklist. RDM? Weapons blacklist. Those blacklists do not expire outside of play time on the server so there is no injustice here.
  2. Staff members have the ability to allow/disallow the ban to be expedited. You're making it out as if it's impossible to keep someone banned when the discussion/suggestion never implies this.
I think it's naive to have this idea that peoples experiences are constantly being ruined by rule-breakers. If anything, I think this community is being ruined by the people that think they're doing a service by backseat-administrating & not being able to tolerate any form of deviation from the rules.

FRAPS was bad enough, but now we have ShadowPlay. With the simple click of a button, you can record 'X' amount of minutes beforehand. You may think this is great, but really what it has done is exacerbate the toxic mentality that lingers and which has given the normal player this newfound power that has changed the RP environment into one that feels hostile. One slip-up or action that falls within a grey-area will land you in the Courthouse with your name slapped on a PR.

We've got many rules. Too many rules. Rules that have different interpretations and rules that, unfortunately, cannot be learned through actually reading them. It takes experience in-game and learning from others to actually change your ways.

How about Card Events... oh wait! We already do those.
How about More "Donator" Perks <https://limelightgaming.net/forums/thread-13919.html>

How about actually monetizing something that makes sense and not exploiting children through virtual items/perks. What's your honest opinion on the difference between putting a price on;
  • donation-required items/suits/perks
  • expediting a ban dependent on the approval of staff
One is fair game but the other is... unethical/exploitative? Because of... perception?

Because there's a difference between profiteering from punishments/mistakes/behavior and profiteering from rewards/benefits/cosmetics.

I like breaking the law and psychologically manipulating people for the gain of profit, so I think we should add lootboxes, but you buy them with a virtual currency. LimeCoins. 400LC = 1$ or something. A LimeCrate is like 800/1200 LC (not exact, need to change numbers so it's more difficult to convert and make sure people have spare funds left over).

I can only see this going well for the server and no issues at all.

Implement now, and for each ban we issue free loot crate. kthnx <3
I see what your trying to say, but no. Whilst yes, we're a business that isn't a not-for-profit, that doesn't mean we need to take onboard something like this. For someone just to be able to pay to get rid of their suspension, it defeats it's purpose as a punishment and not to mention the fact, as others have raised, that this sort of thing with a lot of 13-17 y/o players on our server could be seen as very exploitative. It also brings into the question what happens in the event of an appeal or if that ban's found to be invalid later down the line.

There's so many issues with this, not to mention I see it as morally wrong that I wouldn't support this if it did end up coming to staff vote. I won't begin to address the negatives of stating a cost to get unbanned when the person is originally banned in-game.
This is a pretty bad idea for Limelight, makes them seem money-hungry and is morally wrong. I don't believe that this would ever get added, especially after having a massive debate in the team Discord with Faustie a couple of weeks ago.
as a limelight big minge i +support this so i can get banned and use my mothers credit card to get an unban

please add this

or pigeons will take over the server
In a way, you can get Bailed out of prison, the higher your charges the higher the payment, implementing such system would be both logical and cost efficient
(Feb 27, 2019, 06:21 AM)Welker Wrote: [ -> ]Just because limelight is a business does not mean monetary gain should be the first and foremost goal and we currently make enough to steadily sustain the server as it is, this just seems like a desperate move and would be unethical given the player demographic.

You're talking about a community predominantly made up of children/teenagers and it just comes off as extremely exploitative. As for membership, is it entirely optional and a way to support the server as almost every financially stable community has to sustain itself.

Totally agree, we're a game server, I don't think pushing for paying to get unbanned is the best, it might work for large games like WoW where the servers are official, played by thousands and owned by the company who made the game, but we're a relatively a small community...

It just seems like we're exploiting people who might misuse their parents credit cards (most of the players on the server are teenagers / young adults) and then they might get banned again
This is a joke right
