Hello everyone,

The staff team have been in discussion about a possible change and are keen to hear your input. CityRP has had the same scoreboard since the start and we believe a change to its design/purpose could help improve gameplay on our servers.

What we propose is the following:

Remove all colour coding/job names/in-game names from the scoreboard and have it only as an indicator to who is online.

Why?

Currently, players only need to press TAB to view all important information about a player or team. This means that governments can prepare better defences just because there are X amount of Corleones online or raiders attack the President because some of the police force went offline. All this limits roleplay and makes the game unfair. These changes can also make it easier to do undercover roleplays for police officers and gangs alike as they can no longer be outed by just viewing the scoreboard.

This change is to also to coincide with a new way to view people's information in-game. In this new system you can choose to reveal information about your character to other players as a contrast to it always being viewable. - hopefully stopping metagaming.

Please vote above and discuss below!

However, you can just look at the F1 menu and look at the slots available.

I like the sound of the scoreboard being stripped to basics however it would look quite bland. Unless we have some form of Concept Art I'm going to remain neutral.
I really like the current one.

This would make my experience so much better, constantly I and another I roll with are meta-search warranted when playing under a criminal job title so he can pick up our vehicles in his cruiser and pull us over to arrest us. Coincidentally it never happens if we have passive job titles.

so if i am RP'ing as an undercover police officer, i could do /job Citizen, not be seen, and then proceed to spy on criminals.

I totally agree with this. I dont see why it should be changed. CityRP's scoreboard is unique and its one of the things that symbolises the gamemode.
If color/old scoreboard is kept then a new system for Undercover should be instated.

If a Police Officer makes their job name for example Citizen, then the player should be seen as a Citizen ingame and in the scoreboard.

It should come with a toggle and a few options, hope you guys understand what I meant.

The current problem is that it just doesn't work, if you have ./job Citizen and a cop is pulling you over he already knows you can't do nothing to him while your job is Citizen henceforth this idea will remove this and allow people to actually role-play undercover jobs, etc as people can't just look at you and see that your 'X' 'Y' or 'Z'. I believe the way it should set up is display your steam name, a government pass if one is given (perhaps a option to toggle it showing?), and your description, with this it'll allow way more opportunity to roleplay, trust will be a key thing for once.

I'm neutral on this, leaning towards the status quo.

Personally, I like the scoreboard the way it is. It's nice, symbolises the gamemode, and has a few functions tied into it (passes). It is also useful for various OOC aspects, such as checking job slots without opening F1 (which can be a hassle to load).

However, I can see the negatives, such as possible metagaming, but then again, many other aspects of the gamemode are repeatedly abused, so I'm a bit iffy on the entire thing.

I know that metagaming is an issue, though that can be dealt with if it's caught. This would be a drawback to the gamemode, you should just keep it how it is. Plus you know they could just look at their job name unless you plan to toss that too.

Which both are a bad idea, I know the immersion sounds good but too much immersion just makes the game a chore to play.

I personally hope that CityRP starts becoming more of a SeriousRP gamemode. Along side with a skill tree, changing the market, this would be a nice change.
Having how many people of each job on at the top/bottom?
I'd like to point out that the Serious RP community in Gmod does not have that many players compared to semi-serious.

If you still want people to join keep it semi serious, if you want serious then open another server, don't make this one into it because it's not. If you try to change something into something it wasn't meant to be then it will fall apart.
Removing the colors removes the immediate metagaming that everyone, and i mean EVERYONE does without even thinking about it.

Guy wants to sneak into the PD station with a stolen uniform? Hes not blue, and thus we know hes not really a cop, and thus, do literaly everything we can to catch him.

This happens all the time with every job no matter what they are doing, and most people do it without even thinking about it, its just a knee jerk reaction.

Remove the color, remove the metagameing
However, we would still have to consider job slots, pass functions, and the general accessibility of the gamemode to new players. I don't think it's a decision we can make solely on the merits of tackling metagaming - sure, it's an issue, but while this change might help it it affects too much for this decision to be taken lightly.
