A five minute arrest should be the maximum amount of time for a jail sentence without a jail guard.
I do understand that being arrested is more of an inconvenience rather than a punishment due to the length of time served, but perhaps we could add an automated fine for being arrested to cover the costs of the police response and investigation. That way there's a little more punishment involved.
Yes, but the system of appeal would be a burden. When doing PoliceRP, the process of simply trying to find out why someone was arrested can take 5/10 minutes real time. The reason that most of us are suggesting increased jail times is due to this issue. We cannot do an effective, timely investigation into everyone who's arrested in five minutes or less. Imagining a raid situation, where you capture four people. Trying to find out about each arrest taking five minutes? That's 20 minutes for the last guy. Who's already been unarrested for five. That's why we're suggesting higher maximum times, but only if there's a jail guard / warden / judge / whatever.
I believe that any sentence longer than 15 minutes will seriously deter players from actually playing which isn't what we want.
Maybe make the AFK kick timer much shorter while in Jail to avoid people just going off and getting food or something?

With that in mind, how would you all feel to the judge/magistrate job who has the power to decide whether or not an arrest was justified? I think once the system is in place, we can extend jail times and look at other forms of punishment.
To ensure we have the best players for the job, perhaps it would be best to have this job REP locked under the government category. I feel this would be a nice REP reward as it allows those with good government RP skills to have a decision on these matters.
I'd rather we have a simple system of a jail warden that has to review them and provide activites to prisoners. Kill two birds with one stone and less of a logistical hell.
What I said above covers exactly that but also ensures that cases are reviewed by experienced players who have proven RP knowledge.
Ahh, ok. I thought we were just going for the judge side and no guard, but I see your point.

Would like to see that activated when jail guard is active, but it would also need to be varied for each person's time.
Look guys I'm gonna be flat, I've seen new players, veterans, and even staff members unfairly jail people. It, in my opinion is completely foolish to install longer jail times without a way for the player to get out or even some fair way for them to prevent it. I've seen players who have even more hours than myself, jail me, for simply jay walking and then I end up sitting around for fifteen minutes.
New players do not want to sit around for an hour, this is SEMI serious. Please remember that when talking about these discussions. If you want a prison simulator then perhaps you should think about adding a serious tag to the server, or starting a whole never server.
Or, maybe just find a way to fix the system that you have now instead of adding everything that's being discussed, instead of turning it into a cops and robbers situation for the server maybe implement more on other jobs.
I do think that a jail guard job would be cool, but if players are going to do prison RP it should be something they volunteer to do. Not something they're forced into by a shit cop. (mind my language.)
