CPU Overheating - Ollie630 - Jul 24, 2019

Recently, my CPU has been reaching temperatures of around 90+ degrees. When playing GTA, it will reach 90+ degrees but will rarely cause my PC to blue screen/crash. However, when playing Garry's Mod, the overheating will cause my PC to get the BSOD and crash.

The CPU also seems to be running at a constant temperature of 95 degrees.

The things that I have done so far to fix it are:
  • Re-apply new thermal paste.
  • Clean the dust out of my PC.
  • Lower the maximum CPU performance.
My specs are: https://gyazo.com/785bf4aeed6abc0eb3d30d0c05087d60 (This screenshot was taken without any game running.)

Not sure if this is helpful but I use an all-in-one water cooling system.

I was wondering whether anyone knows how to fix this problem?

Thanks,
Ollie.

Seems like lots of others with your CPU have similar issues.
Here is another solution you could try that worked for someone on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/6jsy0p/found_the_solution_to_my_i74790k_heat_issues_90c/

I’ll try that now and will reply again once I’ve tried running Garry’s Mod. Thanks Smile

I changed all the settings to the ones shown in the video but it hasn't fixed the problem unfortunately but thanks for the help anyway. Big Grin

Do you have any cooling fans? If yes, which ones?

I have 1 case fan and the two fans that are with the water cooler.

The case is an NZXT.

Are you sure the radiator is working for your water cooling?
Make sure the water pump is working too
The failure of water cooling could be your issue

RE: CPU Overheating - Bambo - Jul 24, 2019

its highly unlikely but also do a virus, malware etc scan

RE: CPU Overheating - Ollie630 - Jul 24, 2019

The radiator seems to be working as all of the fans are running.

I've ran the virus scan and no threats were found @Bambo‍ but thank you for replying. Smile

Would also like to hear the result of you checking to make sure the radiator is working, pump working properly etc... my guess is that it's failed.

EDIT: You mentioned about the radiator but not about the pump - make sure that's working too. No use of having a working radiator but the pump broken.

To check whether the pump is working you have to squeeze the tube right? If so, the tube was hard when I tested it but that was when the computer was off if that would affect it?

And for the radiator, the way I checked it was to see if the fans are all running but I'm not sure whether that is the correct way of doing it?

Thanks.

I believe pump stats are visible in the BIOS, as long as the pump is connected to the pump header on the motherboard, try looking there.
As for squeezing the tubes, i dont see how it would tell you if its working.

I can't seem to find the pump stats anywhere in the BIOS.

Have you re-applied thermal paste to your CPU? that can help alot

Yeah, I did that earlier this morning but it didn't change it sadly.
