You can't really compare a "Windows" laptop to an Apple laptop without talking about specific companies. Apple is a company, Windows is an operating system. Windows laptops range from chinese knockoffs to multi-thousand dollar workstations. Apple laptops do have a nice build quality, but you can find equal and even better laptops from other manufacturers. It's just Apple's overpriced and overhyped products that degrade the company. Sales are slowing down, prices are rising. Let's see what Apple does besides release extremely expensive phones.

I could do, but there's no point considering I would be upgrading in the next 2 years anyway. Essentially worked it out on the premis that i'll renew my contract, it's about 200 quid cheaper over 2 years?

Neither, get a HTC or motorola.
Motorola aren't a serious flagship phone brand at all. They're a budget phone brand.
The HTC U11 is a nice phone, yet the Google Pixel XL 2 and LG V30 are both releasing soon, at least one oF which should be better.
