It shouldn't be space that's the issue. I have 80GB on the drive that my Garry's Mod is on and I am subscribed to 1559 addons. Does it say anything when it stops you from connecting to the server?

I am not too sure, I have had issues with connectivity due to overuse of space as your HDD/SSD generally use more space even if it is only temporary. I have fixed these also in the past by having a lot of space and this has helped before. I am not sure how much you have removed in the past @"Plan" but I still somewhat still recommend it as it helped in the past.
