Okay so then once you do that, you also don't know who's on your team or who's even around for OOC purposes. For example if you want to make a police station RP as the sergeant and you have to have all of your officers for the RP and need them to listen, but then one doesn't show up, how do you know who to demote? You don't know who's on your team, you only know how many there are, and then you only have the names of the people in front of you. One thing I would support is removing the color of their name if you're looking at their model, but the scoreboard will just cause more problems than it will solve. More importantly it's impossible to get rid of metagaming. That's just like saying if you take all the ammo from Detroit, the murder rate will go away. Sure it'll go down, but more problems will come up. You cut off one head and more will replace that head. It's not worth it, and if anything its a step backwards as you create more problems instead of fixing them. RE: Remove all colour coding/job names/in-game names from the scoreboard? - Fly - Feb 27, 2017 -Support First of all, the server is Semi-Serious. Second of all, it's gonna look absolutely stupid and there isn't really a point in it. You're gonna be able to know how many people are each job anyways, and the scoreboard is an unique part of LimeLight. RE: Remove all colour coding/job names/in-game names from the scoreboard? - Dig - Feb 27, 2017 While I do like the idea and can see the benefits this might have I also think that the ability to customize the title of one's job is too integral a part of the roleplay on this server to be removed. Metagaming can always be easily mitigated by staff and hasn't (in my eyes) been the biggest problem on the servers recently. I think that if we remove job titles it's gonna severely cut the amount of creativity people will put in to their roleplays as /job is essentially the customization of what role you want to play. Making a database would be a fix for that yes. But if you get rid of the scoreboard that would also have to be pushed to avoid the problem. Now this is an issue, you NEED predefined jobs. You can't assume everyone will get along and make groups together. One of the perks of having predefined jobs is that it can ally players in the same faction for a common goal, instead of isolating everyone into one big group. If it was one big group then it may discourage players to socialize with others. The predefined groups give them an excuse to bond together whether you know them or not. As for the problems I was just summarizing what I was saying, if you're going to implement this you have to have other works ready to replace the scoreboard, such as the police database you mentioned. Which in my eyes is unnecessary work that would only delay the developers time from which they could be better using for other updates. Moments like these are where you should draw the line between serious and semi serious RP. As I stated originally if you want more realism and immersion open another server, don't change this one. Garrysmod has already shown that players prefer more semi-serious fields than serious. If you keep going for a more realistic, serious perspective you will find more players leaving. With that in mind, you'd have more content and advanced features, but less players. Or you have less content and simple features, but more players. RE: Remove all colour coding/job names/in-game names from the scoreboard? - Dig - Feb 28, 2017 Another point to be made here is how a newly joining player might perceive the server when they first take a gander at the scoreboard. What they see affects what they will want to do and if they see nothing but a blank uninformative list of names I don't think they'll be inspired or compelled to do very much themselves. I think this will isolate roleplayers from eachother therefore I'm voting no. RE: Remove all colour coding/job names/in-game names from the scoreboard? - Project - Feb 28, 2017 Atleast the voice color coding needs to go. RE: Remove all colour coding/job names/in-game names from the scoreboard? - Mr.Sir - Feb 28, 2017 It's quite difficult to know what this change will give. Why not give it a try, for example a week. And see what happens and let people vote after that if they want to keep it or not. Edit: And slam up a big notification when you join the server that the scoreboard is under testing. So new players doesn't get confused. I'd like to see Ingame names completely hidden to those who are not on a recognised list. Could go hand in hand with a passport/ID card system. I personally think meta gaming is still a very big issue, even if you don't do it you still know and it's difficult to RP around it. Genuine unknown is far more interesting |
