RE: Map Vote! - RageSquid - Dec 25, 2018 Misc:
And this is as far as I got, however, this map seems massive so I wouldn't be surprised if there were a lot more to it.
Another thing for Misc is a small room next to the orange box with 4 rooms that have one way glass. As only people with noclip can enter it I highly assume it is for admin Sits to take place, so they dont have to go to rooftops no more. Real nice. Because we're a city rp server voting to play on yet another rural town map and not even a decent quality map, at it. Might as well add rp_downtown to the vote at this point. We have absolutely no idea whether this map is optimized whatsoever but apparently we're willing to go head first into it. It's an experimental map and it has been out for 6 hours RE: Map Vote! - Markus - Dec 25, 2018 I have posted a reply to the map thread on Workshop with the feedback you guys have given. I encourage you to do the same if you'd like to see changes made to the map. What I've posted: "Some suggestions that my community has said: 1. Fake doors could be made into actual shops, offices, etc, to make them useful for RP. 2. The map lacks wide open spaces for building (or maybe some hills in the mountains). 3. Some variety for the shops on Railway Ave. would be nice. 4. The lake could be improved a bit, however it's looking good so far, if a bit bland. 5. The fire station could use with a few pre-built props for roleplay and the hospital could do with a few more rooms like on Rockford. Overall the map has a lot of potential and seems great. Good luck in the future. ![]() RE: Map Vote! - Markus - Dec 25, 2018 (Dec 25, 2018, 04:57 PM)Welker Wrote:(Dec 25, 2018, 04:45 PM)Markus Wrote:(Dec 25, 2018, 04:44 PM)Welker Wrote: The map in its entirety I believe that we currently lack the number of active players to properly pull off a city. RE: Map Vote! - jess - Dec 25, 2018 Hmm i might just stick woth evo, but i dont mind truenorth either RE: Map Vote! - Welker - Dec 25, 2018 (Dec 25, 2018, 05:01 PM)Markus Wrote:Yet we're a city rp server, this isn't a vote to change the title of our community. RE: Map Vote! - StephanGH - Dec 25, 2018 Evo is just crap tho. So I'd rather vote for a rural map than have to play on Evocity RE: Map Vote! - Raptor - Dec 25, 2018 I've played on Truenorth and after I've looked around I do think its really good map for LL, its somewhat simliar to Rockford than it is to any Evocity map, but the reason for that is because those two maps are made by two different people and are two very different styles. if it was back in 2015 or earlier, I'd say Evocity suits us, but for now, at this day of age I think maps like Rockford (even though most poeple dislike it, I kinda do too) and Truenorth open a lot of new opportunities for new types of content to be added in the future. I think that Truenorth has more variety of landscape and structures than any evocity map and that again, will open up new opportunities for new RP ideas and new content. We need new changes, changes keep things fresh, if we keep going back to older maps than it'll just feel the same over and over again, no matter how much our memories are attached to them. RE: Map Vote! - Pollux - Dec 25, 2018 I don't see how "fake" shops are an issue when so many are real. I'm assuming they were left out to help increase performance anyway. I'm assuming they were left out to help increase performance anyway. Can confirm. He said his main reasons for leaving some of the shops un-themed or not actual shops were: 1. Performance: all of them would need to be rendered at the same time while inside the city and thus unsued shops with more props would have a performance hit. 2. He likes to let players decide for themselves what they'd like to build in them. 3. He was unsure whether adding more shops would be a good idea as many would never be used (see Grif. Dr on Rockford). By the way, this is the official suggestions thread that he linked me:
As for the issues that Welker has pointed out, Statua told me he'll fix the texture bugs such as window textures on the park grass.
As for the trees being wobbly, here's what he said:
"Basically, $treesway is something i picked up a few weeks ago so I'm no pro at it yet. The default values made them sway like belly dancers so it's a work in progress."
If you'd like to see an example of them being used properly, look at the pine tres in the park or all around the map for example.
Oh and he's planning on making the tree sway values StormFox-compatible.
I have managed to talk to him for a bit, however, I did not want to bother him that much as it is Christmas Day after all.
RE: Map Vote! - Barkles - Dec 25, 2018 so for me I like truenorth and I think it could be a viable option - I think it would feel more immersive with less players and its meant to be a smaller town - I like the long roads and lots of hideaways as I this could improve two of our main RP styles: Cop/Robber. - I like the overall vibe and style. that being said - theres some horrible 2D buildings that are unopenable - some shops even have an interior but arent openable - Gotta love the "wide expanse of fuck all" approach to the edge of the map - I dunno I think it could either be a great map or just way too spaced out. RE: Map Vote! - Project - Dec 25, 2018 @Welker, restart your game first, delete and redownload the content packs if the issue is still there. RE: Map Vote! - Kvatch - Dec 25, 2018 Everyones good points right now are great and all, and it's nice to see that people are voting for the map and want a change in the community, but I think TrueNorth, since it's just been released, is one to put on the pin board for now. It has too many bad points, and with the map change approaching (and I'm sure people want it soon), we probably don't want to sit around and wait for those flaws to be addressed. Everyone has problems with it, but not many people have problems with the Evocity maps, because they're well established, developed maps which have been build upon suggestions, design iterations, changes, etc. TrueNorth has only just come out, and I think using a fresh new map where the creator's creativitity was limited to himself and maybe a few friends' opinions isn't a great idea. I could be wrong, he could've done the the whole process taking a community's input the whole time, but I feel as though with the number of people who don't want TrueNorth and would rather stick to the Evocity maps, it would become an issue for the server's population and general gameplay satisfaction. If we're gonna go with TrueNorth, I say wait until the next release of it and see what the creator changes, and see what issues he addresses, because it seems there's a lot of issues. RE: Map Vote! - Noble - Dec 25, 2018 Truenorth is damn good and seems to take nearly what all of Rockford offers but condense it more into the main part of town. Typically maps split sections to save on performance (Evocity tunnels) but it seems the maker managed to do so using the fields off on the side of the town. It should definitely be tested (as I clearly remember everyone pitching a fit over v33x when we found out how bad that map was for performance) but if performance isn't affected it shouldn't be ruled out. The fake building are inevitable when you build maps that hit the limits of the engine like this. Opening up each of those buildings would probably crash the map if you could even load it (Rockford does it as well but with much larger buildings all over the edge of town). Overall it's a large map like Rockford but should keep players more condensed to the main part rather than pushing them to split into 3 different areas like Rockford does. Edit: Just found the top layer, honestly think that part should be blocked off and just handle fishing in the river next to the road that goes up there. Could just do what Rockford does and put a road barrier up and then an invisible wall. The top area is just too big and has no real purpose. Edit 2: It's made by the same dude who made Rockford. I'm guessing optimization is going to be fine but should still be tested. I believe the top part is what makes 40% of the map and what makes it unique and interesting. It has many functions such as little homes, dirt roads, a lake, fun places for car chases and this is what really makes this feel like a mountainous area and removing it or blocking it off would serve no purpose than amputate one of the vital organs of this living, breathing atmosphere. I'd rather, you gave ideas on what should be put up there for a better experience and post them on the suggestions thread provided above (https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/1601428630/1742229167197572448/). |
