The Evocity Stock Exchange (or ECSE) can be a scary place for someone who doesn't know what they're doing.
That's why this (very simplistic) guide was created: so that you too can start losing money... without feeling like you're losing it!

[1.1] The Ticker Tape

The moving text at the top of the page is known as the 'Ticker Tape'. It quickly shows you how much different stocks have risen/fallen.
For example, from this image we can see that company 'AERI' (Aeris) has fallen by 5.51%, whereas company CMO
(Cobra Military Organisation) has risen by 11.49%.

[1.2] Stocks Graph

The Stocks Graph simply tells you how much money is currently in the ECSE: this is known as the 'Market Value'. We can see that on Friday there was about $10,850,000 invested into the Market, and since then it has risen to over $11,550,000.
If the Market Value decreased, then the line would be going the other way; from a high number to a lower number.

[1.3] Main Stories

The Main Stories section of the home page show the headlines of three pieces of news related to the ECSE.
The stories differ depending on what the Market is doing, and can also lead to RP opportunities (See Section 4).
Pay attention to this part! It may not look like much but sometimes one 'bad vibe' can lead to stocks falling badly (crashing).

[1.4] Latest Market Changes

The Stock Exchange is always, always, ALWAYS changing. This is because people all over the city are buying, selling, or affecting stocks so that prices are always in flux.
The 'Latest Market Changes' table has three columns:
  • Symbol - The company's symbol. Companies are represented by a short symbol 3-4 letters long, so that they can be quickly displayed on the ticker tape (see sub-section 1.1).
  • Price - The price of the stock. Any change in the market means a Stock price will either rise or fall.
  • Change - How the stock has changed. A green number and arrow means the stock has increased in value by x%, whereas a red number and arrow means the stock has decreased in value by x%.
[1.5] Submit an IPO

An IPO stands for 'Initial Public Offering'. Simply put, this is where you can put your company/clan on the market.
Those in the 'biz' might call it 'Going Public'.
You will be directed to this sub-forum, where you can make an application to join the stock market (make sure you follow the template!).

[2] Market
The 'Market' tab is where all key information regarding the ECSE is consolidated.

[2.1] Company Name

This column shows you a company's name and abbreviation.

[2.2] Current Price

The current price to trade a stock. 'Trading' is both selling and buying; so for example, a NMIC stock can be bought for $570, but can equally be sold for $570.

[2.3] Price Movement

The Price Movement is how much a stock's value has changed in money. If we take the NMIC as an example, the '57' means the price has changed by $57 (see the next section for more details).

[2.4] % Change

The Percentage Change is how much a stock has increased/decreased in value... in percent. As mentioned before, a green arrow indicates the price has risen, and a red arrow indicates the price has fallen.

[2.5] Trading Stocks

In order to buy/sell a stock, simply click on it. In this example, I'll use the NMIC again. When you click on a stock, it will take you to that company's Stock Page.

All this information should look familiar enough now. If not, go back to the right section and read it again!

[2.5.1] Individual Stock Graph
The graph on this page visually shows how much a stock has increased/decreased in value over a set amount of time.

[2.5.2] Stock Information
  • High - This is the highest value a stock has been at since it was first opened. Think carefully before buying a stock... if a company has a very low 'High', then it hasn't been too successful...
  • Low - The lowest value a stock has been at since it was first opened.
  • Value - The current trade value.
  • Change - The amount (in $) the stock has changed by.
  • % change - The amount (in %) the stock has changed by.
  • 'Owned' - How many of their stocks you currently own.
[2.5.3] Buying A Stock

This box is essentially your receipt as you buy a stock.
  • Total Invested - How much you've invested in that company so far.
  • Shares Owned - How many shares you own in that company.
  • Gross Sum - Total amount you're about to pay (Price of stocks + Trade Fee).
  • Trade Fee - Extra money paid just for buying.

[2.5.3] Selling A Stock

Selling a stock is much like buying a stock in term of the ECSE interface. You'll either gain or lose money when you sell a stock, depending on how much it's work compared to how much you bought it for.
If you decide to sell a stock immediately after buying it however, you'll still lose money. Why? Because of the good ol' Trade Fee!

[3] Portfolio

This section is similar to the Market tab, but it displays only the stocks you own.

  • Company Name - *sighs* we've been over this. TWICE.
  • Current Price - How much your stock is worth, and whether it's increased/decreased in value since yesterday's price.
  • Invested - How much you've invested in that company. My 'Invested' is the same as the 'Current Price', because I bought only 1 stock and the price hasn't changed yet.
  • Profit - How much MORE money you've earned FROM investing in that company.
[4] In-Game

Whilst the ECSE website is all very snazzy and fun it itself, it all links back to in-game. So, what can you do with it?

[4.1] RP Opportunities

There are heaps of RP opportunities for you to take to do with the Stock Exchange. You could be an aristocratic fatcat, showing off your new-found stock wealth in the form of an expensive suit.

Perhaps you'll re-brand the Bank Of America as a hub for Stock Exchange?

Or better yet, become a stockbroker. These guys very humbly take others' money and invest it into the stock market, and then trade them. Hey, if stocks go down, it's not your money!

If your stocks have hit an all time low and you're feeling the strain, maybe it's time to get out that cardboard box and live on the streets until you regain your money.

[4.2] Changing Stocks

You can never truly predict the stock market. But there are some things you can do to help boost your company's stocks.
Run campaigns showing people how great your clan is. The more people recruited, (generally) the better your stocks.
Don't to get involved in crime if you have stocks. Nobody wants to buy shares in a dodgy company. And if you do join the underground, well... try not to get caught!

Stock prices are all based on something called 'Sentiment'. That's basically how people feel.
Let's say there's tension between the Taco Clan and the Burrito Clan.
The very cautious Bob, who has 10 shares in the Burrito Clan, decides to remove all of them because he fears a war.
Bob's friend Ravi, who has a share in the Taco Clan, gets worried and does the same and sells his stocks.

Suddenly, rumours of war are spreading throughout the city and people start selling their stocks as quickly as they can.
Xiaoli, who has been in Rockford for the weekend, comes back to Evocity only to find his shares in the Taco Clan and Burrito Clan are almost worthless, and he's lost the $5000 he invested.

Sad
Brilliant guide to help others!
