You can blame many factors for the reason the numbers have gone down, but the fact still remains that they're nowhere near as high as they have been in the past. Rather than finding the reasons for this, it'd be a better idea to think of, and implement the required solutions. A start has been made with this, with the inclusion of moneypacks.

Other factors which I believe will help increase the population, is everyone making a conscious effort to RP, or increase the amount of RP on the server. (E.G as I'm currently doing, putting incentives for people to open shops in the form of a monetary bonus.)

From a staff/dev standpoint, however, there's a few things which is making L2 a bit annoying to play currently.

My experience with the current hud has been somewhat appalling. It often closes itself after opening, forcing me to wait 30 seconds for it to correct itself. In addition to this, it is rather clunky. (E.G Spawning a pot is actually very annoying. Before, you could press F1, spawn the pot, and close f1 again. Now, you have to press f1, presuming it opens, press black market, then press on the pot, then finally use it. It's much less efficient, and much more annoying when it doesn't bloody open!)

Straying slightly away from the bugs and various, obvious issues which have been mentioned multiple times before, there is one key problem in my eyes. Fearless and Limelight are the same. There is all thiese new additions to limelight, this new, and better management, but the game still plays exactly the same. I've mentioned it before to numerous people, but Limelight at the end of the day, is still a CityRP game-mode. Meth labs are cool and all, but they're just an extension of contraband. It also gets boring very quickly, and so there's no longevity in it. The Secret Service update is cool, but doesn't offer anything actually new to the gamemode. Infact, if you look through the updates, the vast, vast majority of them don't actually change the way in which the game is played, but server other roles. e.g to make it look better, more variety etc. Yes, that is great and all, but when the fundamental gamemode and how it plays is still the exact same as it's competition which has a larger and much more active community, we're always going to loose.

Frankly, I don't think the CityRP game-mode is exactly growing, or even has potential to grow massively. On that basis, maybe it's time to Limelight to find it's own grounds, and perhaps develop it's own gamemode from the ground up? The further it strives away from fearless, the better in my opinion.

Something I have also noticed while playing the server, is that it does attract lots of new players, but it also haemorrhagethem. They tend to only play for short duration, and never seem to return. I'm not sure if that states back this up, but my own observations seem to. (E.g lots of low houred players, but not many of those with 10-100 hours, for example.)

I don't know really. I just thought Limelight had so much potential to be different, but in reality, it's fearless with a makeover, and much better management.

You've raised some very good points.

The developers are aware of the issues within the HUD and they will soon be addressed.

Now, when it comes with gameplay becoming boring I can completely understand where you are coming from. Meth is a good way to keep people busy which is what keeps them on the server. I think if we were to add similar things for different jobs, this would keep player(s) busy and stop them becoming bored.

We do have a lot of things in the works, it's just the big updates take time and some of our developers are short of time recently. We will continue to keep the server updated though.

When it comes to LimeLight branching off into another venture, it is something that has been discussed and we have looked at other game options.

From what I gather, the staff team needs to focus on:

- More in-game activities to keep players busy.
- Polishing of the gamemode (HUD (fix coming soon), F1 menu etc)
- More ways to make sure new players return
- A more unique identity.

Any more people would like to add? Remember, we are always looking for where improvement can be made!
People come and people go, it is a way of how a community runs! Before you know it the servers will be filled with players ready for RPing.
You need to give it sometime, I know nothing about what is yet to come yet from what I hear, big things shall be coming soon.
I still have faith in LimeLight although I am drifting away from Garry's Mod.
I'm always glad to see people raise good points like you did, Jono. We're looking to make progress in a lot of areas but the best way to prioritise and concentrate our work is to receive honest, no-bullshit feedback.

The HUD issues are currently being addressed and we should have a new one very soon. It's taking a little while because we're polishing it at the moment.

We're also working on a few major systems that are pretty different from anything that's been presented in an RP gamemode before, and we'll release more on that later.

As always, people are always welcome to give us suggestions or to make input in the community discussions forum, or even to message us on steam.
As I stated in the first post, this is all great, I check LL everyday (forums) to check the players online, and this is the major factor thats driving me away, and not just me other players too. Its like you can play a game thats a tiny bit better mostly the same stuff, or you can play a game thats extremely similar with 20x the players.

I know what I opt for time and time again. I dont go on Limelight for money etc I go to RP and with no players....theres no RP

I think thats the most important issue you should try and address. And not even that, this new US server, I'm gonna have to say bad idea, splits the player base IMO
As an American player my first choice of server will always be based on population, not location. If the EU server has the most people on it I'll hop on there instead of the US one.
You say that this will split the community however they focus two different time zones.  When the US server begins to populate is when I go to bed.  If anything it will just beccome visible to US players on the server listing, targeting a larger range of players across the globe
