Alright it's about time someone asked the players: What do you guys love/hate, what do you guys want to see in the future? How should we attract more players?
This is a thread for you to say whatever you want, no one's feelings are going to get hurt. Be honest about your opinion of limelight, and try to give us some constructive criticism.
Fix the f1 menu. It's a buggy piece of shit which isn't user friendly and that we should switch to a system of our old one as that was friendly and we're used to it. It makes console errors for everyone whereas the old one was more stable and user friendly. Voluptious made good work but it's so buggy and hard to work with and sometimes is unreliable to use when you have to press f1 for it to disappear and reappear.
That's it really.
In all seriousness though,
1. Increase player interaction. The current system doesn't promote in-depth interaction between players. The old /commands are outdated and could be replaced by something more interactive. For example the pm system is horrible and rPhone could improve this a lot.
2. Hire developers. There are some great suggestions in the sub forum which don't get pushed out at all due to the lack of devs. The developers could also work on the F1 menu and other stuff which needs tweaking. To prevent the leaking of the gamemode they'll need to sign a contract or something.
3. Implement moneypacks. New players or players from the other community are scared off by how long it takes to build up an inventory. This can remove the gap completely. Moneypacks mean more income for the community and definetely more players.
Quite simply, fun.
Maybe the game-mode has been exhausted for me, but I can say with certainty that there is nothing to draw me on the servers. Nothing really to look forward to. The servers being mostly empty doesn't exactly help things, which is a bit of a catch 22. Through my eyes, there's only the following things to do within the CityRP gamemode, and what the problems with each of them are:
Roleplay - Something which should be the most occurring time filler within the server, is actually the least occurring for the most part. Still has no incentive to create passiveRPs, which are needed to make the server feel alive. I'm personally not going to spend hours building, getting ideas etc, to sit in a shop for a couple hours with close to no visitors. At least with the RPP system, you had a reason to RP, and other people would visit you on the hope that they may get credit for RPing well. (If that makes sense?)
Make Money- Mostly self explanatory. There's been a lot of focus on the development of this, but the fundamental problem still remains. It's mundane, and repetitive. (Unless you start a business of sorts, which is one of the small pleasures I still enjoy on the server.) Logging = Boring. Meth cooking = Boring.(It was fun for a time, but it's too inconsistent to actually be a draw to log into the server, at least imo.) Fishing = Boring. (Same formula as has always been. Some people enjoy it though.) Contrafarming = boring. So what else is there? Making money, to me, is a draw to the gamemode, but the methods in making money are boring to me. It relies on heavily repetitive methods for the most part.
Drive Around - Fun for all of 2 minutes, until some twat crashes into you, blowing you up, meaning you can do f all for the next 10 minutes...Actually it's pretty mundane as well.
Build - One of the more positive aspects of the server. I enjoy the recent additions of Sprops, signs etc, however a fundamental problem still arises. What's the point? Why build, if you have nothing to build for?
Socialize - Interesting one, and something which is bound to offend a few people, but i'm going to go ahead and say it anyway. This community isn't that great. A lot of people are often hostile towards anyone and everyone, and those whom aren't are mostly arselickers, young, or those whom have been on 4chan once, and now use all of that lingo on the servers constantly. 'kek.' Yes, that is a huge generalization, but I personally find it hard to enjoy other people's company on the server anymore. It may just be it is me, but for the most part, I feel those whom remain have the mindset that they followed Limelight this far, that they may as well stick around as there's no other community that will harbor them. All of those people with interesting personalities, which did tend to be pillars of the Fear.less community have all become inactive, leaving behind people whom I can reluctantly only describe as being autistic.(Poor choice of wording, but couldn't think of how to word it more politely.)
PvP - Something which I used to enjoy immensely. The biggest problem with this to be personally, is that 'Another community' has a better PVP system to me. Why would I go onto a server, which is fairly inactive, has a lesser gun system (In my eyes. I enjoy madcow weapons more), and requires me to spend hours farming repetitive content in order to afford said guns, only to get into a firefight occasionally and end up killing the aggressor in the space of 2 seconds. And that really is a problem in my eyes. The fun of PVP is when you actually fight another players, obviously. When there are no players to fight..Kind of defeats the point.
I realize that vast majority of this paragraph has been incredibly negative, so I will end on some positive notes about the server's development since it arose a few months ago: Some of the updates have been really, really good. Sprops, spike strips, the model chooser, the new bus, the multitude of new cars, the new Secret services pack, the new HUD. But something which I urge developers to consider when implementing new 'content', is to ask yourself what it really adds to the server? Adding a car is very nice, and exciting for the first 5 minutes, but beyond that, it changes nothing in the server. And that has been the case with the majority of updates so far. They add nothing new to the server to actually do, no actual content.
And I think that is the biggest issue with Limelight. There is all of this new 'content', which makes it initially seem so much more professional and polished than Fear.less, but once the initial glitz and glam wears off, the server is very similar to it's established counterpart of Fear.less. And why would someone join a seemingly declining server over a vibrant and full of life one?
1) Implement Moneypacks. This will help to retain new players that are scared off by how hard money can be to make (If they're used to DarkRP for example).
2) Freedom of tools! Afaik, we operate with a 'just because its abusable doesnt mean we shouldn't implement it' system so why the hell are tools like muscle banned? We deserve access to muscle tool, rope tool and it wouldn't hurt to allow players to have 1 or 2 lights each to improve RPs.
3) Allow teachers to give REPs. Nothing much to really say about this one, I think it's a pretty solid idea.
4) Advertise the shit out of Limelight. Let's get this trailer finished and lets go advertise! Advertise at Facepunch, reddit, wherever you can! We need to attract new players desperately and although things are starting to get better in terms of playerbase, we should continue pushing to get more players always. I think this ties in somewhat with moneypacks too.
5) Fix F1 & HUD. When new players join and see a trillion script errors, what sort of example does that set? It's mostly coming from the F1 & the HUD. The creators of both of these did a great job to say they had such huge time constraints however it's time to prioritize and fix these issues.
6) Improve the F1 Menu.
-We need cookies (easy thing to add iirc) for the tabs you were last on in the F1 menu so it stays on where you last were.
-Once it's finished, implement the teachers' job guide to the F1 menu to help new players greatly.
- The people that complain that it looks too much like DarkRP, it looks fine and players that are used to DarkRP will find it a bit more familiar than the old menu.
- Make it looks a little more polished. It isn't polished at all.
7) Implement the mechanic job. I think it would be a great addition that wouldn't be the hardest of tasks to do.
8) Changes to public transport stuff. New players are always confused about how to get their taxi or whatever so instead of making it bought from market, why not add a SWEP (Weapon like hands/physgun) that they spawn with which allows them to deploy a taxi or a bus, at no charge? There's literally no point in making these items cost IMO, and is confusing to make them be bought from the market.
9) Get new developer(s). Voluptious being our main dev now with the recent departure of Wood means he's having to put in all the effort and one could assume that there's too much for one person to do. Either promote a talented member of the community or get one from elsewhere, but I think it would be a reasonable thing to do.
10) Fix the stupid characters page because it's ugly, messy and for some people it doesn't work at all. It's in dire need of an update.
11) Bind F1 menu to F4 as well as F1. This makes it easier for new players migrating from DarkRP.
12) Remove the little black box at the top of the screen in-game that gives tips and stuff because most of it is outdated information. Instead, rework the system to say stuff in chat in bright-red or something, with actually relevent and to-date information. Currently it talks about non-existant servers (Our build server when there's actually 2, and V4B1 which doesn't exist either...). Thing that could be added:
-Check out our server list at servers.limelightgaming.net
-Have a question or need help? Type /help to contact teachers
-Need to contact an administrator? Type @ then your message to contact them.
-Please read the rules in the F1/F4 menu.
-Sign up to our forums at limelightgaming.net!
-etc etc
13) Continue to focus on blacklists instead of bans and only use bans as a last resort for people not here to RP or are seriously breaking rules.
14) Add REP rewards.
15) Add small hour limits for gov jobs - 1 Hours for Police, 5 for Sergeant, 10 for President, 8 for Vice.
16) More improvised and impromptu events to bring the community together. I, as do many other players, love the events and think that it's a moment for all players to be together, RP together and truly experience the powers of serious roleplay.
I'll add more if I think of any, only just woken up.
Personally I think that whilst there are many issues, things are getting better. We're getting out of the decline and we're slowly rising and we can continue to do so.
There are many very good points above me.
1.) Chaotic Environment - I do feel that the majority of the server thrives off of chaos. As a Firefighter, I have trouble RPing as I have grown a fear of being mugged, killed and stolen from. Oftentimes if called I do a driveby to ensure it isn't a false call, I rush out, get it out and run around the truck to make sure nobody is behind it with a crowbar. I am always checking my back, even in the comfort of my own station.
This constant aggression towards a profession that in the real world is mostly respected is just... bizarre. And most of this stems from the fact that government vehicles are lootable. It is just sad to see an officer gunned down in the street just so someone can loot his car. But it happens, a lot. Rule or no rule.
2.) Updates - I like the updates that are pouring out. The new vehicles, the new job, the tweaks and adjustments. It shows that there is a steady activity going on and it is good to see. I do hope that a few things could be implemented soon that I know could take time to figure out. Additional income items like farming... new jobs like Mechanic, etc.
3.) RP - In my opinion there isn't much RP that goes on. When it does happen, it is great. There are some good RPers on. However for the most part there are 'rule' players. Criminals that play just at the rule line for example. They don't RP, instead they break the law at just the acceptable level without care for anyone else.
4.) Staff - The staff overall has been very helpful to me. Sometimes there are days where it does take a long time to get a response. And there are many times when there are none available or online. We may need more members across the chain. On the forums, I am happy to see BRs answered fairly quickly. And it does seem that a lot of suggestions are looked at and gone thru. So the activity on the forums is great.
Overall, I am optimistic that this group will get there. It is a bit rough right now, but it is to be expected as LL grows. It is still fairly new. A few system tweaks, some additions to add to economy and gameplay and some advertisement to bring in some more good RPers, and we'll be set.
Some very good points have been brought up in this thread and they will be addressed in the staff area of our forum. Thank you for such prompt and reflective responses because constructive criticism does have a major impact in what actually happens here at LimeLight.
Good work guys.
Alright so I've had this huge list way back from 2 years ago that I've proposed on Another Community, but didn't get much attention.
1. RT Camera: Different channels
You'd be able to change different channels for your camera and your rt_screen.
I've heard a lot of people complaining about not being able to do a proper NewsRP or ReporterRP because random people just put down cameras to watch their bases. Just think about it: EvoNews finally becomes reality!
2. Character Customization
People would be able to to buy their own clothes in cloth shops, like the pre-made one in front of BP on v33x.
These would include hats, new shirts, jeans and suits, masks, new hair types, beards, glasses etc. (Take a look at Arma 3 Life).
Maybe even player-led clothes shops.
3. Team voice chats and overall better voice quality
Take a look at my suggestion called "GSpeak" in the Suggestions.
4. Phones and PM->SMS
GPhone. What more to say?
5. Implemented trading
It would be a really simple, two-sided window thingy like in the Steam Trade.
It would provide a more accessible and user-friendly way of buying stuff and with the "both-parties-accept-to-trade" function, it would prevent scamming.
6. More options for president
The president could choose from new options, such as providing help to the poor by adding a few bucks to their salaries, or as a dictator, they could add new taxes (by that I mean IRL ones, like VAT).
It would make the president's life less money whoring and more changing the citizens' life style.
7. Hire more developers
Seriously. If we only accept developers from our playerbase or the friends of staff members, then we will not get anywhere. We should have another slider on the Donation page called: "Hiring Developers"
Alternatively we could just use scriptfodder to temporarily hire devs.
8. ADVERTISE!
Like LivKX said: advertise the shit out of LimeLight. We are not some sad puppies lying down on a main street waiting for some hugs. We should be advertising on Facebook, Reddit, Facepunch, Twitter (not only a devblog).
There is also a "Games in Progress" section on Facepunch where new
(non-DarkRP) servers are being advertized every hour with litreally thousands of views.
https://facepunch.com/forumdisplay.php?f=189
9. A new map
Some communities build their own ones. I know some professional mappers from my HL2RP experience.
Alternatively we could use other evocity maps or one called "Paralake City" (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f...1234998%29
Let's be honest. Evocity is liked and was very good in it's golden age, but now it looks like something from a 90's movie.
More trucks
Excluding my love for trucks and fords only:
For the past 4 cityrp communities ive participated in, ive only seen a number of different trucks (limelight is that community with a number of trucks of which being the tides truck and raptor) and this is quite honestly ridiculous. Everyone is always drooling over fast sports cars or sleek coupes meanwhile there is a shitty tides truck. The raptor is nice and all but its not what all trucks are about. The raptor represents that suburban person that likes both cars and trucks, which is the result imo of the raptor. Anything ranging from the ford ranger to the f150 line to the f350 line should be added, the dodge ram series, gmc sierras, duramax, tacoma and tunda, chevy series. It offers more variety of both CARS and TRUCKS. Doing a utility rp (working on water mains, telephone lines, power, ect) use a ford f350 or a ram 3500. Wanna just drive a normal truck? buy a tacoma or f150 or chevy 1500! This adds way more variety for people to buy or show off with. Trucks can also show wealth (as today many trucks are luxury vehicles but affordable to the masses).
I wanna see more trucks, the 3/4 tons and 1 ton's that you can have fun with, if you are against it why? It adds more options other than your average sports car.
F1 Menu: Really dislike the new F1 menu, and I know a lot of hard work went into it, however somehow its slower and personally I feel less functional. I know the reasons why it had to be changed mind you.
Playerbase: Seriously needs to be worked on, like really. Everytime I go onto LL your lucky if there is 20 players on, no jobs are full. Like apart from pres and vice pres...even at that, not all the time.
[move]vFIX ME PLZ ! FIX ME FIX ME PLZ !v[/move]
DONATION PERKS: For the love of god, please sort out the perks for donator as to be quite frank at the moment they are shit. Nothing extra for £10 then whats the point in donating £10 ? Not a great deal extra for £15 so whats the point..if I had knew this at the time. I probably wouldnt have bothered doing them > Hence why I have not donated to the max.
[move]^FIX ME PLZ ! FIX ME FIX ME PLZ !^[/move]
Every single point on here is very well thought out and accurate, we love feedback and we are taking everything into consideration!
Please, if you have things to get off your chest, our team will work on improving them!
Keep it up!
I do want to say that I've seen a lot less theft for the fire engine and firefighter mugging. The last few times I've logged in I have even been confident enough not to lock the doors as I usually do. So, hopefully the massive crime spree that has been going on is starting to die down a bit.
As many more have said; the new F1 menu is - to be frank - shit, it's buggy and slow and I don't know how much more shit I can carry.
Here's an idea:
Don't add money packs
I don't see the point. The entire pain of the game mode is the horrifically slow economy. And that's good - it makes you learn how to get cash fast, plus it's not fair on those of us who are skint, those who want money packs only want it for big guns and fast cars. Which are useless for
actual RP
Some jobs don't have hour limits - or high enough hour limits, Such as pres/vice pres, Law Enforcement and big boss man jobs.
Other than some small stuff that doesn't heavily effect the game, and are easily ignored, that's it.
Small Stuff:
Some of the car's lights (IE Lokus) are buggy and randomly flash. As SS, after using the resupply command on the car, I can't actually use any sights for my guns. Sometimes when rushing through the player model selection screen the screen doesn't go away, but it can't be interacted with. Donation rewards aren't even there. Prop limit is a bit low for us common folk. And often the ADV Dupe transfer process doesn't work (Rendering the build server useless for half of us)
