Houston teen kills himself while taking a selfie with a gun

A 19-year-old Houston man, a day ahead of starting community college, accidentally killed himself Tuesday while taking selfies with a gun, police said.

The gun blast hit Deleon Alonso Smith in the throat, CNN affiliate KPRC reported.

Family members were shocked.

"It's the worst feeling in my life," Eric Douglas, the victim's uncle said.

"It's a numb feeling. It's still unbelievable," Smith's grandmother Alma Douglas told the station. "Yesterday was my birthday and he came to wish me happy birthday, and then to hear this kind of news."

Investigator's told KPRC that Smith's cousin was in another room at the time the gun went off.

The cousin told police they found the gun earlier in the day. They're investigating.

It was a very stupid move indeed.
Why the hell would you even hold a gun like that -.-

RIP to the guy though, I still find it crazy that people like him have access to weapons like that :O.
Well, this is why people should learn firearm safety. I hate to be mean about it but that's all on him, and if anything the parents/guardians (or anyone that raised him, regardless if he lives alone or what) should have told him that he shouldn't do that with firearms. However I'm not surprised because people are foolish. RIP

Especially in a country where guns are widely accepted. You'd think that they would at least educate the people on firearm safety. I remember a case where a man shot his own daughter by accident while cleaning his gun.
If you don't intend to fire a gun, take your finger off the trigger, and turn on the safety switch. These are basic rules, even someone who has never fired a gun in their life should know.

All of that on top of not having the damn thing loaded while taking selfies with it in hand
