A Deputy stands guard at the crime scene following the siege.

MARION COUNTY, ID - Detectives from the Marion County Sheriff's Office and Evocity Police Department are investigating following an 'armed siege' which took place on top of Evocity's Backstreet Apartments yesterday.

According to a statement from the on-scene commander, Captain Sebastian Kruger, deputies were attending the address for a routine welfare check related to a domestic abuse case, when they came under fire from 'armed gang members' with automatic weapons.

Multiple deputies and officers from both the MCSO and ECPD responded to the gunfight, which lasted around 25 minutes, coming to an end with two suspects being shot dead after officers and deputies gained access to the property through the roof. When the property was searched, a large quantity of weapons, drugs, and a dead body with 'signs of torture' were found by police.

A cordon around the property guarded by MCSO deputies remained for hours after the incident. A joint investigation between MCSO and ECPD has been confirmed as underway, and the MCSO has urged anyone with infromation to come forward and contact them.

Captain Sebastian Kruger makes a statement to reporters at the scene.

Captain Sebastian Kruger, Divisional Commander at the MCSO, said in a statement to EvoCity Newspaper at the scene; "This incident was entirely unexpected both by us, the ECPD, and I'm sure the local community. There is a lot that I am unable to say about this incident at this time other than its basic circumstances. A joint MCSO-ECPD investigation has been launched and remains ongoing. Deputies and officers will be stepping up patrols in the local area and engaging with the local community. If anyone has any information that may be of use to our investigation, I would urge them to get in contact with us by contacting our communications centre or via our website."

While the whole circumstances of the 'armed siege' and murder are currently unknown, we hope to learn and report more information in the coming days as police continue their investigation.
