Full Version: Rules overhaul

Hi everyone,

Today we've implemented a new set of rules for CityRP. The goal was to remove or reduce any areas where the previous rules put unnecessary limitations on RP or combat. 31 rules have been removed, reduced, or merged. This leaves 45, several of which don't affect RP or combat significantly (e.g. general rules).

These changes are live now, from the 18th.

Along with this, the staff team have agreed to take a much more lenient approach going forwards. Many things will just be resolved IC and hopefully won't require mod intervention. Of course, making things more free for the majority of players does bring risks that a minority will seek to abuse this as usual; for this, staff are expected to make use of rule 1.5 (Listen to staff), 3.3 (FailRP), and just general common sense. It's impossible to close down all the grey areas without a gigantic rules list, so we figured better to have far more open rules and deal with the minorities exploiting loopholes separately.

A few things won't be changed yet (such as removing FearRP or needing admin permission to RP dictator, and replacing with in-game mechanics); we'll wait to see the response to these new rules as it gives us time to develop and test solutions. We've already got these planned for the dev team, but they'll take a little while.

A comprehensive list of the changes is below:

Please make sure you familiarise yourselves with the new rules, but don't worry too much if it's a lot to remember. Nothing new has been added, these are all either reductions or minor updates, so the worst that can really happen is you end up following rules that no longer exist. Staff will be particularly lenient in the coming weeks anyway, as people and staff both figure out how best to work with the new ruleset.

Thanks for reading everyone; I hope that these new rules help and you all enjoy them. Otherwise, we're continuing work on a series of content updates which we hope to update you on soon.

Feedback, as always, welcomed either here or in the form of suggestions.

Cheers.
