Mayor of New York City

The Mayor of New York City is head of the executive branch of the Government of New York City. The mayor's office administers all city services, public property, police and fire protection, most public agencies, and enforces all city and state laws within New York City. The Mayor appoints and removes all unelected officers and exercises all the powers vested in the city except otherwise provided by law, and is responsible for the effectiveness and integrity of city government operations.

New York City Council

The New York City Council is the lawmaking body of the City of New York. It has 3 members from 3 districts spread across the five boroughs. The Council monitors the performance of city agencies and makes land use decisions as well as legislating on a variety of other issues.

Chief Medical Examiner

The Chief Medical Examiner leads the OCME which is responsible for investigating all deaths of persons in New York City occurring from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility, or in any unusual or suspicious manner. OCME also reviews all applications for a permit to cremate the body of any person who dies in New York City.

The City University of New York (CUNY)

The City University of New York (CUNY) is the public university system of New York City. Its constituent colleges date back as far as 1847, with the City University officially established in 1961. The most recent campus was established in Southside, bringing the total number to 27. Thirteen alumni have been Nobel Prize winners. Courses offered include policing, EMS, medicine, forensic pathology, and law.
